I am basking in the afterglow of an amazing live show from Lansing's Frontier Ruckus with Chris Bathgate, along with the Sisters Lucas, in the lobby of the Guardian Building.

    Simply amazing.

I remember that summer when Regina showed up on the scene, chaperoned by Marcus Belgrave. Seemed EVERY jazz stage I sat in front of, she appeared on...didn't matter if it was Orange Lake Drive, Alexander Zonjic, or whatever, this perky and energetic and enthusiastic young lady would just blow them off the stage with her violin...and they all loved her.

This morning I'm soaking up some energy from the Toy Matinee...a disc I got from the DTS people seven or eight years ago...and I seem to only play it twice a year. Great harmonic energy and driving rhythms...not a bad way to start a Friday.

I was turned on to Charlyn Marshall aka Cat Power last night on Austin City Limits. What a voice, easy on the eyes for a skinny girl too.

Bruce Cockburn iTunes playlist. Then I'm going to pump it up a bit for the end of the night, maybe some Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.

    The lyrics:
    Sun been down for days
A pretty flower in a vase
    A slipper by the fireplace
A cello lying in its case

    Soon she's down the stairs
    Her morning elegance she wears
The sound of water makes her dream
Awoken by a cloud of steam
She pours a daydream in a cup
A spoon of sugar sweetens up

And She fights for her life
As she puts on a coat
And she fights for her life on the train
    She looks at the rain
    As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in a store
With a thought she has caught
    By a thread
    She pays for the bread
    And She goes...
    Nobody knows

    Sun been down for days
    A winter melody she plays
    The thunder makes her contemplate
She hears a noise behind the gate
Perhaps a letter with a dove
Perhaps a stranger she could love

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
    She looks at the rain
    As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in the store
With a thought she has caught
    By a thread
    She pays for the bread
    And She goes...
    Nobody knows
    Nobody knows

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
    She looks at the rain
    As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in the store
Where the people are pleasently strange
    And counting the change
    As She goes...
    Nobody knows
    Nobody knows

    Nobody knows
Why is she "fighting for her life"? She seems content. What's that story?

People are trying to crack the meaning at songmeanings.net.

    Visiting the sixties, again....

"Well I'm about to get UPSET
    From watchin' my TV
    Been checkin' out the news
Until my eyeballs fail to see
I mean they say that every day
    Is just another rotten mess
And when it's gonna change, my friends
    Is anybody's guess

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
    Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
    That trouble comin' every day
    No way to delay
    That trouble comin' every day"
    by Frank Zappa
