I was a Rod Faces gal, untll he took completely over and turned disco. The Faces were a spectacular live act,

I was watching this last night and they were cooking. Rod seems like the weakest link to me though.

And I never cared much for Steve Marriot's voice.
    I prefer him to Rod.

I always liked Marriots voice myself - funny how that works. I loved his energy on stage too. Thought the Stones were great live back in the 'Get Yer Ya Yas Out' days, though I wouldn't pay a dime to see them these days. Over the last 30-plus years Mick's been much more concerned with running about the stage than he is about singing well, and musically they just don't sound the same to me even on the old classics.

VH1 Classic showed some footage of a Faces concert from about 1972 or so, GREAT stuff. They did a really cool version of Maybe I'm Amazed [[was on YouTube last I looked). Ronnie Lane did some singing too and had a damn good voice. He sang lead vocals on Ooh La La - sounds quite a bit like Rod.

Here's a cool BBC Ronnie Lane documentary. Watch for the cameo of the Detroit skyline at the end of part 2.

"Quiet Village" by Martin Denny. Guess that song set my rudder South and that is why I now live in the tropics, with both eyes keenly fixed towrds the North, and the rebirth of the D.

The Newport Folk Festival is streaming live on many NPR stations online. John Prine is coming up, Calexico is on right now. Great stuff.

I'm beating a dead horse, here, but what the hell. Sue me, goddamit.
The blasted Dave Holland Big Band CD still has me in its grip. It has turned out to be one of those that just seems to get better every time I listen to it, the rare record that causes me to be in a big damn hurry to get it into my CD player.
I consider my love of music as a blessing. It gives me so much, while taking absolutely nothing. Can't beat that.

Don't be so defensive. If you like it you like it. Why wouldn't you?

As Mr. Marley says, "One good thing about music, when it hits- you feel no pain”

and to keep on topic, Jeff Beck - mainly from the '77 Live album.

You all will be generally indifferent, but moderately relieved, to hear that I have now escaped the swirling vortex of jazzical joy, "What Goes Around" by the Dave Holland Big Band, which had temporarily engulfed and captured me.
    Y'see, I obtained a new seductress.
"Pathways," the recorded-live 2010 release from...
    The Dave Holland Octet.
I got it bad, and it's sooo good.

Laugh at the costumes if you must but it's a haunting retro tune from the Netherlands.

Sunday and it’s so hard to say goodbye
I don’t know what to do passing the days without you
Friday night when I see you again
You’ll make a fool out of me
I don’t wanna be your lover for the weekend

Sometimes when I’m looking at your face
There’s something in your eyes that makes me realize
We’ve got no chance if we’re going on this way
You mean such a lot to me
I don’t wanna be your lover for the weekend

    Love in a woman’s heart
I wanna have the whole and not a part
It’s strange that this feeling grows more and more
‘Cause I’ve never loved someone like you before
