Default Different Things in a Different State

Yesterday, I prowled some roads in Toledo in the dead of fall.

Crossing Pennsylvania on Jefferson, there is an open field where all this used to stand: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.18...39.28,,0,-1.49 That is a sign that suburban industries are suffering the same fate the industries in the Motor City have.

Junkyards are as common in the suburbs as they are in Motown. This is probably my favorite part of this junkyard: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.16...270.67,,0,1.19 Just south of the yard, there is an overpass with a "funny" Conrail ad that says "take the load off the road"

Want proof that hospitals have been going downhill for a while? Then see this one near downtown Trenton: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.15...23.95,,0,-1.42

This is DTE's Trenton power plant: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.12...01.91,,0,-2.05

This is an intresting sign for a convinence/hardware store combination: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.07...15.67,,1,-1.91

As we approach the Huron River, the only remaining Total sign in the area comes in sight for a marina filling station [[what do you call them?)

After Swan Creek Road, both the Fermi 2 nuclear plant and the Monroe power plant come into view.

We pass by a large power line corridor, the nuclear plant is seen here in all it's glory: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.98...00.99,,0,-1.91 There is also a dairy farm that had many black and white cows when I drove by it both times on the trip.

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.95...260.17,,0,5.21 When we passed Nadeau Road there was a major car accident [[or was that a police chase that ended horribly?). The Monroe County sherrif and the Frenchtown Township fire department were on the scene.

Further south on Dixie Highway, at the I-75 interchange we passed by what is the only TA Travelcenter with a Tim Horton's: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.93...336.05,,0,4.44

We then had to turn onto Noble Street after entering Monroe due to construction. We passed through an intresting neighborhood [[this is of the street we drove on) http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.92...202.58,,0,0.91

We passed this... you know: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.92...246.53,,0,4.22

Monroe had a great looking downtown: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.92...272.63,,0,1.19

After passing through South Monroe we were again in rural areas: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.88...,78.37,,0,1.76

Here, you can turn off M-125 and arrive in either Luna Pier or Samaria: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.81...,207.4,,0,6.06

We then passed the northern end of Summit Street, a street in Toledo. There was a barn that advertised Mail Pouch tobacco but it had pretty much faded away.

When I passed this there was no traffic light: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.73...96.23,,0,-2.76

Soon after we entered Ohio. We found out things were VERY different in the Buckeye State. For example, look at this railroad crossing we passed after entering: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.72...206.78,,0,-1.7

Soon after we stopped there: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.72...31.55,,0,-1.56 [[note the signals have been updated since this picture) and saw a bus with red and blue stripes being towed.

Then we turned "east" on US-24 and back into "Pure Michigan" and north US-24. We passed two CSX trains along the segment of Telegraph that runs next to the tracks! We then had to stop at a sports shop on North Monroe Street north of Monroe. We headed east on Nadeau and when we reached Dixie Highway the accident had cleared. We then proceeded to reenter Wayne County on Dixie Highway and was on the old Fort Road. We then took Fort back home.

Fun tour mtburb! Privacy controversies aside it is amazing what Google street view allows us to see. I was surprised you didn't opine on the abandoned McLouth[?] steel plant in your second stop.

Across from the abandoned hospital there appears to be an interesting restaurant called Savannah's.
