    Default UAW heads for DC

Has anyone else heard about the UAW headed for Washington DC for a anti Tea Party march...? Supposed to be 1000's of people. I know for sure they left last night on buses....other than that not much else. Sent an inquiry to the local media...maybe they will know more. I am surprisd they have not reported on it already....

The UAW, the Teamsters, the CWA, the IBEW, the democrats, the peace groups, the health care advocates and every single pro-worker/voter/American group are headed for D. C. to attend a huge rally to promote the idea of creating jobs, that has been publicized and discussed for months now. It's not an anti-Tea Bag march, that's what the Jon Stewart event is. It's pro American.

The buses leave tonight. I'm sure if you call a union hall it's possible to get a seat, but everybody I know [[except me and mine) are going.

My father and his brother are WW II veterans who are scheduled to visit the WW II Memorial on the Mall this coming Saturday morning as part of a long-scheduled Honor Flight. I hope the rally organizers make an exception and allow their bus through the street barricades so they can disembark next to the WW II Memorial - at an avg. age of 85, they can't walk or propel their wheelchairs very far. They have already scratched off their planned visit to the Lincoln Memorial because of this rally.

They need to contact the DC police - they run the roads, not the march organizers. I seriously doubt a bus can get that close on Saturday, they're expecting a lot of people. Maybe it's not too late to arrange for golf carts or something. Hope they can arrange something.

Just found out that the UAW elite [[Staff)...flew to DC while all the rank and file had to take buses....hmmmmmm How typical.....Do as I say not as I do. Unions...got to love them. They were useful at one time in our history....IMHO not so much any more.

Not entirely true. Some of the executive staff went this morning to do press and advance with local unions. The kind of thing professionals do. People from Solidarity House have been boarding buses all evening to go.

And if I had gone, it sure wouldn't have been in one of those buses, the most cramped uncomfortable way to travel to a march ever invented. I know as many people driving themselves as are taking the bus. This is the timetable for the mostly free buses: Go to meeting place Friday at 9, drive to DC, get off bus, march and rally, get back on bus, drive to Detroit. Sound like fun?

Even without this event, the WW2 Memorial is usually jam packed with people and it can be hard to walk around and snap pictures. The Lincoln Memorial is even worse since it is probably the most visited site.

The park rangers were the people to talk to [[I asked some DC friends for advice). Also, they should be able to get to the Lincoln Memorial by about 5 if they still want to.

Now that it's officially too late, I sort of wish I had gone. It wasn't going to do much besides make the converted feel good, but I like feeling good too. Instead, I'm working and listening to the march on CSPAN. Good times.

I just got back from walking around the Mall and had to cut it short because I only had a little bit of time to spare for the day. They have a great turnout and it is a diverse crowd that represents all backgrounds. I can't say the same about the Beck rally. I wonder if FOX will cover this event in the manner that the covered the Beck event?

Why is there a rally for social justice and jobs? Obama promised that this wouldn't happen with the stimuli and all. The democrats have total power in all branches in DC. Is it because Obama, Pelosi and Reid are ruining this country and most people realize it? They have the power to pass any law they want. They have the power of hope and change for tax laws and regulations to free up capital to help private companies create jobs.

Why is is that no one ever sees a union starting a company and creating jobs??? I would love to see that happen, but it won't because they would be arguing with themselves.

I wonder what the racial and socio economic breakdown of the Beck rally was. Is it based on skin color? I wonder if the union people will get angry because they overcounted the number of people at the rally, they always get in a tizzy about the number of people show up.

Okay but what is your point? He had 6 of his 8 years with Republican control. Most of the things people hate were voted on by a Dem controlled congress. The dems have controled Congress far longer and are just as guilty of letting America down. Personally I am disappointed in both parties.

Wow. Over 400 leftist groups, paid union members, and they didn't even come close to Beck's rally attendence wise. According to the state run AP "Organizers claimed they had as many participants as Beck's rally. But Saturday's crowds were less dense and didn't reach as far to the edges as they did during Beck's rally."

Nice try but claiming radical environmentalists, unions, Obamacare advocates, communists, socialists, and social justice devotes speak on behalf of America is falling on deafd ears.

I heard some organizers say it was a rally to encourage the government to create 1,000,000 new government jobs to stimulate the economy.

Wow , what a great comeback. Go back to Bush, when unemplyment was under 5%.

So NOW the Dems have TOTAL control, ALL of the votes necessary to pass any law they want. and they still cannot pass theur radical agenda and they blame republican obstruction, and still they are ruining the country.
So now with unemployment over 10% they are doing everything to ruin the middle class.

Our group is bigger than your group, na na na na na wha wha wha wha wha wha. please.

I'm hearing from my friends who attended and see the photos they took. It looked like an amazing day from start to finish, I'm glad it was well attended and spirited. Good for them, it won't change a damned thing, but fight on, folks.

According to my dad, the good news is that he and the other WW II vets on yesterday's Pride & Honor Flight had no problem getting their bus to the steps of WW II Memorial next to the Reflecting Pool on the Mall.

The bad news [[for Democrats) is that 400 of their largest supporting special interest groups wasted money on a poorly-attended rally in Washington DC - money that could have been better spent back at the local level on proven GOTV activities in the days leading up to the Nov. 2nd election.

I walked around the Mall, although not a part of the event msyelf, it was far from "poorly attended." Not sure where you got that information from, unless it was Newsmax. With that said, I expect Jon Stewart's event to be pretty big...maybe bigger. Now, if the unions had a mouthpiece like FOX to advertise their event for free for weeks ahead of time I am sure another 50-60,000 would have showed up.

CBS News estimated that the Aug. 28th Beck rally attracted 87,000 attendees. Here's a composite photo comparing the Beck and One Nation rallies and it shows that yesterday's rally had about half the number of Beck attendees. So given all the hype and opportunities for union-paid free travel, 45,000 is a poor turnout in my estimation. Most of the attendees departed long before yesterday's program had concluded. In this video taken at 4:13 PM, even Bob King's fellow speaker admits that the response is "pretty depressing" - and for being such a prominent sponsor, I'm surprised that the UAW couldn't get their guy an earlier spot on the program agenda!

John Avlon observes over at the Daily Beast that
"....this turnout was small, and suffering from an enthusiasm gap compared to the conservative populists who crowded the mall a month ago for Glenn Beck’s "Restoring Honor" Rally."
He also wrote about the wingnuts on the far-left end of the political spectrum who attended yesterday's rally.
"The curious migration of anti-Semitism to the left was evident in signs that read “End All U.S. Aid to the Racist State of Israel” and “Fund Jobs, Not Israel.” I cringed as these marchers crowded past a group of World War II vets from Columbus, Ohio, being wheeled to their war memorial as part of the excellent “Honor Flight” program. The crowds mostly wore union T-shirts—tie-dyes for members of SEIU/1199—while UAW members donned straight-forward navy blue shirts that said “Mobilizing for Justice.” Justice is, of course, supposed to be impartial, but in this crowd the word had ideological overtones, as protesters marched past people handing out copies of “The Workers World” and selling The Communist Manifesto next to the collected works of Malcom X."
The rally was open to all walk-ins, so it's probably unfair of him to criticize those fringe group members who attended, since they can't seem to attract any attention or crowds on their own.
