"...Was Palin suggesting that the Soviets won the space race? Was she suggesting that the collapse of the Soviet Union was somehow an unenviable result of America’s 1957 Sputnik moment? .."

[The next day she was backpedaling again once someone taught her some recent history.]

Bill Maher: But Sarah is an expert on sputnik because she can see the moon from her house.

oladub: I have no idea how you came that conclusion based on post number 81.
Obviously, it wasn't from that particular post. So are you saying that you don't think the food supply should be protected from poisonous substances?

    Professional sports is about capitalism.

In football, a small town like Green Bay has an opportunity to win the Super Bowl. That's because the football teams put all the TV revenue in one commie pot and split it 32 ways unlike baseball where there are rich teams and poor teams that will hardly ever get to the World Series. Football is like the Democratic ideal where everyone gets the opportunity for greatness and no one is denied an opportunity because of their financial situation. And the Super Bowl winners have the last pick for the talent or as the Republicans say, they " punish success". Republicans claim to love football and hate Obama for redistributing wealth just like the football teams do. [paraphrased from Bill Maher]

Obama has sold the U.S. out to the Commies, what a dick.
What f-ing idiot would sign a treaty like that to the Evil Empire? Only a marxist U.S. hater commie.
What kind of worthless piece of crap would give The UK's secret information to the commies.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009...d-barack-obama
He is giving the commies serial numbers to U.S trident missiles. So they would sign a treaty that only benefits them.?
Thank you Wikileaks for exposing President piece of crap for the treasonous scum that he is.
To add insult to injury, Osama Obama helps to ignite Egypt, then president man child did NOTHING to help out Iranians or Tunisians or the Lebanese or anyone for that matter.
Both the U.S. and British governments disputed on Saturday a London Telegraph report asserting that the "U.S. secretly agreed to give the Russians sensitive information on Britain’s nuclear deterrent to persuade them to sign a key treaty."

Oh, wait, Wikileaks is Wrong? That can't be, I thought this was classified.
State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley called the report "nonsense," saying the information sharing about U.S. transfers of nuclear weapons to the U.K. dates back to the original START treaty, an assertion backed up by the White House and British government officials.
The report, based on a Wikileaked cable from February 2010 during negotiations over the U.S.-Russian New START nuclear disarmament treaty, discussed an agreed statement on the transfer of Tridents II SLBMs to the United Kingdom.

Commies? You are living in a different reality, gdog. So you think Russia poses a greater threat than Iran to us today?
To add insult to injury, Osama Obama helps to ignite Egypt...
By doing what? The Bushies did away with our national grain reserve which left the price of wheat vulnerable to the tender mercies of Goldman Sachs et al. When you mess with people's source of food, revolutions start.

US Chamber lobbyists map strategies to discredit progressive critics
A six-point plan to discredit the US Chamber Watch includes depicting it as a pawn of labor federation Change to Win [later, CtW] and tying it to labor leader Andy Stern and Velvet Revolution. It also proposes swindling the group by creating "a false document" about the Chamber's finances and, once it's publicized, providing "explicit evidence proving that such transactions never occurred."

"Also," it continues, "create a fake insider persona and generate communications with CtW. Afterward, release the actual documents at a specified time and explain the activity as a CtW contrived operation. Both instances will prove that US Chamber Watch cannot be trusted with information and/or tell the truth."
Well, someone certainly can't be trusted to tell the truth.

This is a good look behind the scenes into a conservative organization that deliberately plots to lie to the public. It reveals the techniques used to hoodwink us. This is information the liars don't want you to read. There's a link within the article to the actual document.

Someone asked about this on another thread but I can't find it now.

    Brooks Brothers riot
"Brooks Brothers riot" or "Brooks Brothers mob" is the sarcastic designation for the incident in which a set of Republican congressional staffers converged on Miami-Dade County, Florida in the disputed November 2000 presidential election, posing as a random group of outraged citizens that had spontaneously assembled to prevent the court-ordered manual recount. [[Brooks Brothers is the oldest surviving clothier in the country, selling the conservative, upscale clothing favored by the staffers.)

And related to the US Chamber of Commerce link above, now the Air Force is showing interest in HBGary's sock puppet technology.

Revealed: Air Force ordered software to manage army of fake virtual people
Though many questions remain about how the military would apply such technology, the reasonable fear should be perfectly clear. "Persona management software" can be used to manipulate public opinion on key information, such as news reports. An unlimited number of virtual "people" could be marshaled by only a few real individuals, empowering them to create the illusion of consensus.
I believe it's still illegal for the US government to propagandize US citizens and the contract states "Personas must be able to appear to originate in nearly any part of the world." So who knows what they're up to and where [[rhetorical?)

I guess the lesson here is that just because a movement appears legit, it's unwise to assume it's genuine without investigating.

The sock puppets are on the march!

Fox Reverses Poll Results To Falsely Claim Most Americans Favor Ending Collective Bargaining
On Fox & Friends, co-host Brian Kilmeade claimed, along with an on-screen graphic, that a recent USA Today/Gallup poll found that "61 percent" of Americans are in favor of taking away collective bargaining rights from public unions. In fact, Fox aired the results of the poll completely backward: the Gallup poll found that 61 percent of Americans are opposed to taking away collective bargaining rights.
What do they call someone who keeps getting caught lying over and over again? Oh, yeah, a pathological liar.

Its something the way the Repubs are doing this on one hand you have the media lies and distortions but in order to make it work on a consistant basis and generationally, you need a low information base so there's where the cuts for school funding , crazy curriculum's and revisionist text books come in.

    One hand feeds the other

And don't forget the cuts to NPR and PBS to "balance" the budget while Republicans are not touching the defense budget. Bill Maher had a great visual to show how the programs Republicans are talking about cutting match up against defense, social sec., and medicare. The last three were represented as a pile of macaroni and cheese, two pieces of chicken and a pile of potatoes, while NPR was a small baby carrot and home heating oil was a single pea. Republicans have morons for backers for the most part so they treat us all like morons.

Latest lie: OSHA kills jobs.....because what's important is that you're all working, little proles, and not that you have a safe work place or a living wage. Just keep your little noses to the grindstone and don't bother about what they are doing in Washington.

Even though Obama voted for the Wall Street bailout, gave the banks a huge Christmas Eve present in 2009, had Goldman Sachs as his second largest campaign contributor, and gave the insurance companies an extra 42m customers on the taxpayers' tab, we will still pretend Wall Street is all about Republicans.

Then, to compound such cherished beliefs, all evidence to the contrary, with mixing apples and oranges, federal policies are equated with how states run their schools. The largest federal school system is that of Washington, D.C. where union teachers are paid well but produce poor results. That is why the Clintons and Obamas, being the good parents they are, chose to send their children to a private school. I don't know how well the teachers are paid at the Sidwell Friends School or if they even belong to a union.

A school is only as good as the people associated with it and that includes the students and their families. Finland is often used as an example of an educational system that works with a strong teachers' union. People also note that less than 3% of Finnish children live in poverrty while in the U.S. it's around 20% and In Detroit, I think, it's around 50%. So the question is why are only 3% of Finnish chldren living in poverty even though not so long ago Finland was strongly influenced by the USSR.? Or maybe it's because of all the socialized programs. They may also teach their children that having children you can't support is irresponsible and immoral.

Yet another Republican Lie: Voter fraud is widespread.

New Hampshire's new Republican state House speaker is pretty clear about what he thinks of college kids and how they vote. They're "foolish," Speaker William O'Brien said in a recent speech to a tea party group.

"Voting as a liberal. That's what kids do," he added, his comments taped by a state Democratic Party staffer and posted on YouTube. Students lack "life experience," and "they just vote their feelings."

New Hampshire House Republicans are pushing for new laws that would prohibit many college students from voting in the state - and effectively keep some from voting at all.

Michigan took care of those pesky student voters decades ago. If you want to vote, you'd better have an absentee ballot at college. There has also been an attempt to get students off the voter lists if they change their apartment within the same building in Lansing or didn't return a postcard sent out by the gov.

That can't be true. I voted just fine in Ann Arbor in the late 1990s.

Default Exclusive: Limbaugh’s parent company still using actors to fake radio call-ins, exec

The company responsible for syndicating big conservative radio names like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity has been using paid actors to call in to their radio shows.

According to a recent report in Tablet Magazine, Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications, hired actors to call in as guests.

A website for the Premiere On Call service was taken offline before the report was published, but a cached version of the website is still available.

However, when Raw Story contacted Premiere's entertainment division, one individual who spoke off the record claimed that the service was still being offered....
As if this hadn't become obvious long ago. Read on:

There are claims that Michael Moore is worth at least $25M. I cant find anything suggesting he is worth less. At least he isn't broke.

Now we know which is the party of oppression. When will they start banning education and books?
