    I was wondering that too.

If they do more panos' of the city and get some actual locations like Gratiot, McNichols, East Grand Blvd. etc...

Franklin street is sooo full of crime lol! what with the Border patrol and all the land GM bought that is now sitting vacant.

I'm surprised folks on this site arent as aware of the show as others - the pilot was shot in Atlanta and not paid for by ABC. They added a few Detroit scenes when ABC signed on.

The remaining episodes were filmed entirely in Detroit, with ABC picking up the contract - I expect it to be much better - the next episode involves a murder on the Detroit Princess - and you could tell the previews for next week included much more Detroit - those Hart Plaza lights were easily spotted in the previews - I thought a few of the actors were pretty good - I think its got potential.

Detroit 1-8-7. I thought this was a thread about what the Lion's record will be this season.

Or about a prolific cannibal that moves to Detroit for a spell. He's really hungry.

Movies and TV can be very influential. Maybe some enterprising types will see opportunity here. It's not out of the realm of possibility.

I thought it was decent for a first episode; a few good lines, a little over-dramatic in spots, like the cop going in to talk down the murderer. James Daniels is good and Michael Imperioli should be good if he cuts back on the over acting.

Overall, I liked it. I was expecting it to be far worse than it was. I liked that I found things to laugh at... as a Law and Order fan, I don't often crack a smile while watching cop shows, especially SVU.

And LodgeDodger, about that Loft District... from those actors' mouths to heaven's ears!

This was exactly what I was thinking, that is so crazy and funny that you feel the same way as I do. Also, there was another overkill scene with the guy getting shot and falling from the Junction Railroad Bridge! It looked fake for fact. The female cop also stated that she was heading eastbound on Temple coming up to Cass, but the background scenery was certainly not Temple Street, Cass Ave, nor the Cass Corridor at all! AND what in the heck? Where is Edgewater Ave? Did anyone else catch that giant light-up street sign in the background? Fake fr fact again. Ohh well, descent episode, descent story line/plot too. Ill watch next week as well!

Can we have a foot chase around the interior of the RenCen where everyone gets lost?

    ^ lol.

I liked the show. I thought it was pretty positive about detroit for the type of show it is. I really enjoyed it. I will be back every week to watch it. Did anyone catch the scene when the two officers are in a coffee shop and the one officer says, "this used to be a porn shop." I enjoyed that. A little comic relief along with minor talk of redevelopment with out making it too obvious.

Oh, if you're a L&O fan, you know that Lenny had some of the best one liners on TV

To anyone who is talking about how there using different street names, using the word soda, or the phrase "lets go get a slice", everyone has to realize it was the pilot, which was filmed in Atlanta, everyone is always so quick to judge. At least there is a show filming in Detroit and its based in Detroit, people are working because of this show. Anyone who judges the show because of the first pilot episode is just plain dumb, give it a few episodes, actually wait till they show the episodes that were filmed here in Detroit to complain that there wasn't the right street signs and shit and about trains, half you people sound like the Detroit city council months before this show even aired.

I hope it catches on and runs many seasons, but I found it lame. Like the police dept is going to let a detective just walk into an apartment with a guy with a gun. Like a detective would volunteer to do something like that.

The cop being killed at the end somehow made my wife like the show. It seemed to pull her emotions through the wringer and then she liked it. I felt that too, because it was unexpected, but the rest of the show was still pretty weak.

Ha ha, I loved it when the guy is shot on the bridge and dives over the railing.

I saw the roof of where I work. That was cool.

Huffington Post said that 1-8-7 is a former California police code for homicide, and that was the feel I got from the show. Standard California writers doing what they do.

    I loved the music snippets.

Well, back to sipping my wine in the Loft District.

    Let's hope it improves!

    >> People sometimes still don't know what we're referring to when we say "pop" in other parts of the country...

That means were are goign to kill someone, right?

Just kidding. I thought it weak, but I hope it improves. If the cop had not been killed at the end, it would have been pretty plodding. Do you think they can do that every week?

I think its safe to say that the 'Detroit 1-8-7' that came on yesterday will not be the same show that will show in the future.

The pilot was shot for the most part in Atlanta, except for a few edited scenes where they'll show detectives riding around downtown [[I'm sure all of you did the ol' "I know where that is").

The mockumentary shooting style has since been changed. I thought it took a bit away from the actual build of the storyline.

Also, for those who keep complaining about how this shows a negative side of the city... well I haven't seen a positive side looking on the news anytime soon. This is what the nation thinks of us and in essence what we think of ourself. We can't keep pretending that these things don't happen here.

What is happening is a major network is shooting almost entirely in this city. Be proud you have something you can relate to instead of tearing everything down because its not a double rainbow.

Pretty sure he'll pull through it. If you look at the shots of future episodes on the Detroit News website, that officer is in the pictures.

Hey, a lot of Detroiters aren't happy unless they're bitching about something - isn't hood enough, isn't black enough, don't say soda, don't say slice, writing sux, acting sux, why not 6 mile? 7 mile? eastside? westside?...

That's why so little gets done around here.

I thought the pilot was mediocre. Maybe they should have just started with the episodes they filmed in Detroit.

If this show were set in a city that wasn't Detroit I probably wouldn't be too pressed to tune in next week...

Are you on this show's PR team? Because if you are, ^^^this pitch right here ^^^ is an EPIC FAIL for a couple of reasons:

    1. Condescension doesn't read well. Viewers don't take well to being insulted about their opinions.

    2. First impressions do matter. Yes, it's exciting to see the places where you live and work played out Hollywood-esque. It's insulting when the authenticity of their portrayal is done poorly, which brings me to point #3:

    3. Was there a reason that the pilot was shot in the ATL instead of Detroit? And the fact that some true "Detroit-isms" were missed, e.g., soda vs. pop, the "bullet train" [[is that another name for the People Mover?), and a passing mention of the city of Ferndale were, in a word, weak.

All I'm saying is that I hope this show doesn't play Detroit weak by substituting other cities and diminishing the authentic voices, sounds, language, jargon/lingo that makes Detroit unique.

The Wire didn't do that to Baltimore.

    Mandatory positive:
The soundtrack was the best part of the pilot.

Hopefully the show won't get cancelled. If the show fails, many will equate that with Detroit as well. Needs better writing IMO.
