Default Mobile professionals form trade organization

From today's Detroit News: Mobile professionals form trade organization

The founders of Mobile Monday -- Michigan, an Ann Arbor-based networking group of about 100 mobile application professionals, this week announced plans to open a Detroit branch in October,....
Opinions? Further information? This is kind of hopeful/ominous:
At a time when Michiganians are struggling to find work, there are hundreds of mobile jobs available in Metro Detroit, said Keith Bourne, another co-founder of Mobile Monday -- Michigan, which is part of an international organization that seeks to have mobile industry workers share ideas, spot trends and promote the growth of the industry.

"These companies are growing and probably their biggest problem right now is finding staff," said Bourne, who will sit on the board of the Mobile Technology Association. "My concern is if we can't fill these spots, these companies will have to go somewhere else. That would be a real tragedy."

These are developers of applications that run on the iphone, android, windows mobile, webos, symbian, and so on. Not bloggers-and-whatnot, who could work out of an RV or from the beach so long as they had an internet connection. Drat. Not for me.

This is a good, practical thing. Mobile app development is something you don't have to be local to anywhere in particular to do. It's probably not big business to make the next fart piano, but decent successes can generate enough $4.99 downloads to justify a job or two.

For some of us "addicts," wouldja pay a buck to have DY on your phone? I don't have a shiny iphone, but on my [[older) blackberry, this site doesn't even load.

Posted from the local public library , which is not the beach, unfortunately .
