    Default Silverdome's future looks promising

I read in the past week, the new owners completed a few million in renovations for Friday's big soccer event.

30,514 fans show up to the soccer tournament. The event turned a profit.

Here I was thinking the Silverdome would hit the wrecking ball with the land broken up and sold off in pieces and the now the new owners are making things happen and bringing in large events to bring the Silverdome back to life.

I have some fond memories of the Pontiac Silverdome. This is good to hear!

And, the new owners are Canadian!! Yay Canada!!!

PS I'm Canadian but, according to my family tree, I'm half-American.

Anything that gets cash into the Pontiac city coffers,is a good thing.Anything that brings, people, tax revenue and maybe some of our police back,is a good thing.Anything that finally ends those "sore loser without a pot to piss in" lawsuits,is a good thing.Go Canada, thank you for having a sharp, smart person with a little vision who who bought a stadium for a penny on the dollar. And it just may work out.

As far as I'm concerned, no better place in the country for a casino, tons of parking, everything on one level.

Isn't it a drive in theater right now? I know its the 'wheel-in' movie screens so nothing has to be constructed, but I wonder how that is doing. I think that's a great idea for now too. I remember going to Miracle Mile to see movies!

Move the Pistons downtown and lobby to get MLS to the Silverdome. Win-win.

OK, maybe not win win but you see my intentions.

My brother took his family to the soccer game. They had a great time at the Pontiac Silverdome-dome-dome. No Bigfoot sighting though.

I enjoyed going the Silverdome back in the 80's when the Pistons was still there. It is too bad they can't shrink the Dome. I know that the new owners want to make it work but truth be told, the Silverdome is too big. It was built for football with 80,000+ seats. They can get some events but they have too much overhead.

Keep in mind, the owners have invested millions into a potential redesign. While reconfiguring a structure that large is far from practical, its not impossible to do, especially with the right owner with the right aspirations and goals. The owner has already said his goal is to get an MLS team in the the area, I for one think it might do fairly well, but only if they reduce the seating capacity to around 35k. Moving everyone into the lower bowl for the friendly, and closing off the upper bowl would have been a start. But lets put something in perspective. 33k is more than attended a few Lions games last season.

I agree that it would be nice it they could reduce the size of the Silverdome and have it as an open air stadium for a MLS team. I would suspect that it would be cheaper to builld a new stadium or team up with Wayne State to expand it's football staduim to a suitable size or play at EMU's staduim,
I went to the soccer game last friday and the traffic was terrible, even though is was a little more that a 1/3 capicity/ The consitent traffic jams for events in that area is the number one factor on whether to attend events at the Palace. Silverdone or DTE.

I was really hoping they could have gotten a MLS team to play at Tiger Stadium.
