Default A lot of high profile celebs in town

What would you want them to see to get to know Detroit?

The museums are a given if they'd go for that and sporting events are obvious, but what about nightlife, dependable good music, etc? It's kinda painful seeing karaoke featured as their entertainment here...

Centaur Bar and Cliff Bell's on Park Avenue are classy places. Also, the bar in the Book Cadillac, the Rooster Tail, Coach Insignia. The casinos can also probably cater to high profilers. Then again, I've run into celebs like Ellen Page [[main role in Juno), Jack White, and Lil' Kim in neighborhood bars like Jacoby's on a weeknight, sooo.... I guess they go where they feel welcome!

They showed Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher at the Tiger's game today. Must be in town filming a movie.

A co-worker, a dame in her 50's who has a ridiculously adolescent fixation on "50 Cent," has convinced herself that he is in town to make a movie, and that the movie being shot near her downtown apartment is that movie. She has been pestering the crew about her wish to meet him; she says that they are cordial but that they claim to be uncertain as to whether or not he is around. They probably think that she is mentally ill, an assessment with which I would quickly, and emphatically, agree.
I apologize for the thread-jack, but do any of you know if he is in town, at all, for anything?

He did a film in Grand Rapids back in May but I haven't heard of anything currently in Detroit.

The film Demi Moore is doing also has Miley Cyrus and [[how's this for a throwback?) Marlo Thomas!

Moore posted a photo on her Twitter feed:

Thanks, Lilpup. As it appears that you have kept up with this matter, a bit, please relay a heads-up, to me, if you verify anything in either direction.
Meanwhile, I will be content to listen as the batshitwoman at work-- who has had the nerve to accuse me of being racist, and crazy, behind my back-- continues to knead her little mental prayer-beads in the hope of meeting her "boo."
I couldn't make this shit up. She really refers to him as that, and wears his line of clothing. A real doozy, she is.

Tell her that 50 Cent is living in the Packard plant... waiting for her.

A couple of weeks ago I heard that David Arquette was at the Elwood Bar and Johnny Knoxville was at The Bronx

Is Hugh Jackman still in town filming the boxing movie? I heard that was the reason M-59 was closed for a few hours last weekend. I wonder if he has been seen about town, he's a big name nowadays.

My friend who bounces @ Ronin in Royal Oak has seen most of the Harold & Kumar crew up there regularly on weekends. That & Crave in Dearborn are two of the better/trendy sushi places for celebs to go. I'd show whoever was in town Bell Isle too -on a driving tour since it's probably the coolest place in the city.

I've seen a few photos of Jackman while he's here. That project supposedly only has a day or two left of filming, reportedly up in Oxford.

Transformers 3 is looking for extras for August filming: http://www.beforethetrailer.com/2010...as-in-detroit/

Marlo Thomas probably has family in town. That Girl is a Detroit Girl. Her father Danny started the St. Jude charities by praying to St. Jude at a church on the E Side of Detroit and promised his dedication to his work should he be given a chance in life.

Martin Sheen was sitting in the same pew as my mother-in-law at St. Anne's for mass a couple of weeks ago.

Quick google brought up the following

CIA film 'The Double,' starring Richard Gere, Topher Grace, Martin Sheen, to film in Detroit

Sheen was/is in town for The Double with Richad Gere and Topher Grace.

Another project just starting is Vamps with Alicia Silverstone and Sigourney Weaver, among others. They have a blog updated daily http://vampsthefilm.squarespace.com/ worth following just to see if the blogger's impression of the city changes, as well as a Twitter feed and Facebook page. They've already been shooting at Old Main and the surrounding area.

St. Anne's in Warren or off Lafayette Bl? If off the River it's cool that he went downtown, I wonder if he went by any of Eddie Slovik's old haunts. These celebrities can't all be staying @ The Townsend? I pointed out to a friend after their wedding a few year's back that the fact this place is the ne plus ultra of lodging in Detroit is pretty sad, any other city in America it would be some grand place downtown, the kind being gutted by scrappers

One crew was said to be staying at the Book Cadillac - don't know if they're still there or have moved. Others have rented places in various areas [[I know Scre4m has from where David Arquette has been tweeting).

The one off Lafayette. I guess some people did chat with him after the service but I haven't heard any details.

laugh of you want to Blarf, but there's big money in the entertainment biz and what these people show the world while here and the impression they and their crews take away from here can have a huge impact

Ravine, I snagged this link on DetroitYes, it may help her find her main man. http://www.onlocationvacations.com/

I'd show them Belle Isle, some of the wonderful buildings left downtown and New Center, Pewabic if they had an interest. Music crosses boundaries, I would follow the genre and be sure they got a taste of the kind of places where performers get their start as well as the established clubs.
