Default Petition to Oust Dave Bing Approved

    Honestly, what is going on?

    http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article...FREE/100739979

Any chance Bing gets voted out if this group collects its 57,000 signatures? I, for one, will not be signing it.

Bing has been underwhelming in my opinion, but ousting him is unproductive. Where were these fools when Kilpatrick was running the city into the ground?

I know that Bing is not a dynamo, but mostly good things have happened during his term so far. Or perhaps I've already forgot about the bad things...

This is supposedly prompted by the suggestion that Bing should run the schools. It just doesn't make sense IMO. And, I wonder how she spelled Pugh's name.

DETROIT [[AP) — Petition language seeking to recall Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has been approved.

The Detroit News reports Friday that the Wayne County Election Commission has given Cheryl Guines the OK to gather the 57,000 signatures needed to force a recall election.

Guines is part of Hood Research, a group opposing Bing and the Detroit City Council on a proposal to change how the Detroit Public Schools is run.

Elections officials dismissed petitions against Council President Charles Pugh and Councilwoman Saunteel Jenkins for a "lack of clarity" and because Pugh's name was misspelled.

Does the school board even have 57,000 supporters?

Great, a group of fools who don't realize Detroit is broke, and most unlikely to oust Bing anyhow, wants to waste more money with still yet another election. These are the same fools who were probably happy as pigs in mud all while Kilpatrick was squandering our scarce tax dollars.

What's these people's plan. Seriously. When the city elects a mayor that's actually not bad, and actually cares what happens in the city, the first thing they want is to get rid of of him. Who do they plan to replace him with? seriously? I wonder if these people are working for Kwame.

Bing is the best thing Detroit has going for itself. People don't seem to realize just how far into the hole the city really is right now and there is nothing a BCBS relocation can do about that. Detroit needs a cultural shift not as mayoral one.

Well, get rid of Bing and the next Governor, probably destined to be Republican, will, at the first opportunity, appoint a receiver faster than stink on shit and that will include the school system...finis. And thousands will cheer! And Grand Rapids will forever be the new center of political clout. And thousands will cheer! Every service in Detroit will be privatized. And thousands will cheer. Not trying to be sarcastic about it, but it receivership for Detroit is the wet dream of the political culture of the west side of the state.

The group behind the petition is a self-proclaimed "think tank". Is anybody familiar with them? http://hoodresearch.org/

I THINK THIS SAYS IT ALL

Kresge head already sees resurgence in Detroit
"Rapson hasn't weathered decades of Detroit ups and downs -- he's been here for four years -- but he's largely encouraged by Mayor Dave Bing's administration and what he views as a steady, disciplined approach to assessing the city's strengths and weaknesses.
"Things are beginning to take shape and gain momentum in Detroit in a way that's extraordinary," says Rapson.
Far from being daunted by the ups and downs of the past year, Rapson is energized. He praises Bing's clarity of purpose and emphasis on the integrity of his staff. Ideas that were controversial a year ago -- from remapping the city's functional boundaries to creating light rail -- are moving forward. "

Some people have way too much time on their hands. Why don't they clean up their neighborhoods instead or mow the overgrown weeds in the nearby park?
Where were these folks when Kwame was riding high and mighty?
He did more harm than Bing and did it for a long time.

Detroiters want to recall Archer, that didn't work. Detroiters want to recall KING Kwame Kilpatrick. That didn't work. So why do Detroiters want to recall KING Dave BING? Most Detroiters are sick are tried of throwing out happy talk Black Detroit Leaders. Let the run the show while we fix our ghettohoods. If they get in serious criminal trouble, the recall petition will begin. So far KING BING is trying his best to bring regionalization to Detroit and he will do it by any means necessary. Sacrifices will have to be made, but at the end Detroit will get better.

    WORD FROM STREET PROPHET

Because fixing Detroit take community power, not whining and complaining to our broken governments.

    Neda, I miss you so.

I think the name "Hood Research" says it all. They must be exploring the idea that the people in "the hood" have no clue what progress looks like.

I'm sure these folks will be out in force today in Eastern Market. I say give them a piece of your minds and tell them where to stick that stupid petition.

Okay, a recall is a bad idea. But do you honestly think Dave Bing has been a good mayor or has the ability to govern? Lord have mercy. We are well and truly fucked.

Recall campaigns rarely work in Michigan. I view this as more of warning shot; there are a lot of people in Detroit who aren't happy with Mayor Bing's lack of performance.

Where were these fools when Kilpatrick was running the city into the ground?
A fair number of them were complaining about then Mayor Kilpatrick, in spite of the fact that newspaper editorials, business leaders, and various foundations were praising him for the great job that he was doing.

If we had a mayor who wasn't bad and who actually cared about the city, I doubt anyone would be in a rush to get rid of him.

However, we have Dave Bing as mayor instead.

Find me an honest soul, who is committed to Detroit, is somewhat of sound mind and has the long term roots Bing has.

Is this guy Hazen Pingree? No....but I do believe he is straight and trying to do what he feels is best for the city.

Since 1974 there has been only one other mayor I could say that about.....then even he does a casino about face and commences to ruin the waterfront district.

Crissakes, look at the idiot they just elected for two terms.
Now he still is on the state dole.....though he might be switched to the federal dole soon.

NO! Judge Mathis' background isn't all squeaky clean. He is a fine TV judge, providing a mild dose of weekly entertainment. However, I don't think he would be the person I would vote for as mayor. I think the next mayor needs to be someone who hasn't had a TV show or radio show, been a reporter from any media, or a former professional athlete. Give me someone with .... I'll get back to you.
