Default Michigan oil spill - 840,000 gallons of oil

    http://j.mp/Michigan_Oil_Spill

"MARSHALL TOWNSHIP — A leaking pipeline spilled about 840,000 gallons of oil into a creek leading to the Kalamazoo River today according to estimates from Enbridge Energy Partners, the company taking responsibility for the spill.

The leak resulted from a pipeline malfunction that was still under investigation tonight, said Tom Fridel, general manager for Enbridge Liquids Pipelines in Chicago. The 30-inch pipeline carries about 8 million gallons of oil per day from Griffith, Indiana, to Sarnia, Ontario, according to Enbridge."

Enbridge is a Canadian company. Was the US oil headed to a Canadian refinery? Since oil is more likely to come from Canada, I'm curious.

Under George W. Bush's watch, Oil became self concious, and initiated a global war against humanity and the environment, in partnership with Cyberdine Systems. The end of the world is upon us.

Gov't warned company about oil pipeline monitoring

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – A Canadian company whose pipeline leaked hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil into a Michigan river was warned by government regulators in January that its monitoring of corrosion in the pipeline was insufficient.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration told Enbridge Energy Partners Chairman Terry McGill in a Jan. 21 letter that its corrosion monitoring in Line 6B, the line that ruptured, did not comply with federal regulations...... Surely the press releases calling for more Federal Regulations are being typed as I post this. Just what we need, more ineffectual government oversight. We don't need more Federal regulations or regulators, we need the ones we already have to do more than just issue "warnings" and then wait six months for a response.

IMO just fine the piss out of them and bar them from passing thier costs on to the consumer. Hit them where it hurts! No need for more rules, just punish them for not doing what they were supposed to under the current ones.

Easier said then done. How does one prevent a company from passing along fines to consumers in the the form of price increases?

I suppose the answer is regulation and oversight, but according to this here story, it doesn't exist.

OH NO NOT AGAIN! It's like the Gulf Oil Spill. Soon Lake Michigan will be so polluted if we don't stop this spill.

Pay up Enbridge! Clean our rivers, wetlands and Lake Michigan or we boycott and embargo that flow of oil to your 'Canuckland.'
