I wrote this poem about Cadillac this morning; Speculating the other day about Cadillac's hold on the city's fortunes to this day if any... on the thread about Jerry Herron's essay on Detroit's historical venture toward demise. You can check his bio on Wikipedia. It is interesting to note that
he stole a nobleman's identity who had the same name, and his family's coat of arms. Then in 1906, Leland's new Cadillac car company borrowed the Cadillac family crest for its car insignia...which was used until the year 2000.

Caddy, caddy.

Ontwan, happy go lucky Ontwan,
set out from a small town in the south of France,
his claim to fame: identity theft, ridin high on
some noble dude's family crest.

Done with the chores and the low-pay
makin' other burghers rich, no flippin' way,
Ontwan Lowmay
no one else's caddy, headed for the "strait".

Lots of folks told him; Nah!
Cant do it your way,
Yeah, so he spent time inside, he paid his dues alright,
And always talked a blue streak.

He found his Eldorado; he set up Fort Detroit,
That's when he took all he could take.
his supply line at the cusp of one of the Great Lakes
with beaches like Biarritz, this Caddy had it made.
