I hate it when my labor gets loose. I never know where it'll wander off to.
"Capitalists" are not the only ones using cheap labor.
Ever heard of China, Cuba or Venezuela? Greed is universal.
EXACTLY! Thank you for pointing this fact out. China is merely adapting theirs a bit, with more western 'consumables' [[made there) now made available to their teaming masses -- ala a little less socialist in 'appearance'.

But they get to use factories full of 8-16 year olds laboring 10-18 hours a day.China, Cuba or Venezuela?
I'm not dismissing our country's addiction to cheap labor and illlegal immigrants [[because it is wrong AND bi partisan), but compared to places like China, Cuba, Venezuela, VietNam, Cambodia and others, our wrongs pale in comparison.
Haiti's been looking real nice lately...
No. American Companies would prefer that labor [[and other) costs were the same worldwide. That would make it equally profitable to have factories here instead of overseas. Since most upper management lives here, it would be easier to oversee operations. Since most of the customers are here, shipping costs would be less.Is it a sad day for greedy, so-called American Companies and their CEO's?
So no, it's a great day. And this shows that capitalism benefits everyone by raising living standards. If these so-called greedy American Companies did not invest overseas, many people of many nations would still be destitute.
Hopefully all the liberals and socialists will learn by this. With socialistic style wage controls, people never come out of poverty. When workers are able to negotiate wages in free market capitalistic economies, they are lifted out of poverty.
Temporarily. And then the corporations move on to the next destitute country. India and China are no longer the place to be for cheap labor. Next up, Southern Spain, Thailand and some country you've never heard of until you see its name on your clothing.
Corporations have learned that most people no longer care what the label says. 401ks are based on corporate stock growth. Pensions are dead. So, its a free-for-all.
So you are saying when workers organize, they are lifted out of poverty. Correct. Solidarity!
You mean those socialistic style wage controls where CEOs make over 500 times what the average worker does?
How much food do CEOs eat, anyway?
That's correct. When workers are allowed to negotiate their wages in a free market capitalistic economy, their standard of living improves above those workers who live under oppressive socialistic economies.
You agree that's what we need to do here in the USA. Good.
They say Capitalists are about to lose slave labor but are they? Look at all the part time contract jobs that big corps are filling these days because they know they can get away with it. They will work you for 28 hours a week for 11 bucks an hour and offer you nothing else. Treat employees like shit and that is exactly the kind of work you will get.
There's always prison labor.

"...Perry Johnson Consulting Company – based in Southfield, Michigan uses inmates from the medium-security prison at Snake River Correctional Institution in Oregon to arrange business meetings from the prison call center. Tony Daley, research economist for the CWA is quoted in the USA Today article, 'The pay isn't great – $120 to $185 a month…. Quite literally, [business is] taking advantage of a captive audience.'”
Prison labor was used to make those thousands of faulty helmets used by or men and women in combat zones as well.
and in order to do that, they need the unencumbered right to organize
Thanks to Clinton & Bush and thier free trade policies, employers who hope to sell products at a compeditive price can not pay thier employees a decent wage and expect to make the bottom line, when third world countries pay thier employees $5.00 a week and can ship thier crap into the US for free.Look at all the part time contract jobs that big corps are filling these days because they know they can get away with it. And for those who complain that the Government isn't making enough in tax monies, you need to look no further than the repeal of trade tarriffs. Billions and billions are being lost, as our country continues to go bankrupt. Even hostile, aggressive nations have free trade status with us. They have everything to gain, and we had everything to lose.
It's not too surprising to hear some things are moving production back to the the US. It's amazing in the first place that it could somehow be cheaper to ship something as simple as a frisbee around the planet than just stamp them out here. Raise the cost over there by a couple pennies, and it pushes it right over the edge.
I remember hearing a similar story about a town in China where a myriad of factories churned out those cheap translucent lighters that never work right. Costs shifted the slightest bit, and the place became a ghost town.
don't forget Ronnie and bush the elder. it was ronnie's policy to pay US companies to move to the philipines to help his bud's wife buy all those shoes [[and other places as well. The companies targeted were, no surprise, union firms)
I had to buy some exercise weights recently. Sure enough the only ones available were made in China. Imagine the cost of moving a shipping container filled with nothing but dead weight. That's not at all what I would call efficient.
There's something very fishy about that. Maybe the shipping companies are behind it. They must be making out like bandits.
Mrs. Lodge purchased a greeting card the other day. I looked at it when she brought it home, and it was made in China. It's a folded piece of paper, for chrissakes.I had to buy some exercise weights recently. Sure enough the only ones available were made in China. You are right. I totally forgot about the Reagan / Phillipines deals. Goes to show that the fleecing of America is bi-partisan and [[pardon my conspiracy theories) possibly a coordinated, premeditated effort to take a once-great giant and reduce it to a third world country.it was ronnie's policy to pay US companies to move to the philipines
Okay, I'm making a pledge to not eat Chinese any more.
Of course, I hate that stuff, and never did eat it to start with......
