Default Motown Museum expansion in the works

According to the Free Press today, some good news might be coming from the little three-story house on The Boulevard...

Officials with the nonprofit museum have talked for several years about augmenting their exhibit area, now limited to the cozy confines of the three-level house that once served as the label’s headquarters.

But the pace is picking up. With financial brokering, city hall meetings and even architectural mockups quietly coming together behind the scenes, museum chief executive officer Audley Smith says an expansion announcement will be made by year’s end.

“There’s a compelling need for expansion. Clearly the museum needs additional space to tell the stories that embody the legacy of Motown Records,” says Smith. “We’re looking very seriously at how we can be part of the redevelopment of the Midtown area. We believe the timing is right.”
Will the Motown Museum finally see its expansion happen? Or will these plans fizzle away like those proposed years ago for the Donovan Building site?

It's always been the houses on Holden in the back. They're waiting for a windfall, I'm waiting for a strong wind. Once HFH develops the area from the Lodge to 12th, maybe there will be room within walking distance, cause Cole's [[funerals) isn't going anywhere.

Berry Gordy could bankroll this himself if he wanted to. Or Universal Music, which bought out Motown years ago. Oh well.
