Loud bang

Does anybody know what that loud bang was about 300pm today downtown?

it's been happening periodically... we heard a big double-blast about 8pm last night. i know the fireworks crews are loading the barges just south of my house at W. Jefferson & Cabacier.... might be some test shots?

Heard one in Corktown around 9-10 this am, just figured the
DPW truck struck something.

I've worked fireworks shows before and they do not do test shots.

Take it from an old truck driver -- truck engines backfiring can sound like a bomb, especially when amplified by a tunnel, underpass or a canyon of buildings, and especially when a bored young driver decides to have some fun. Not saying that is happened, but there can be many innocuous reasons for a loud bang. Unless you are sprayed by glass and shrapnel, look for the simple explanation.
