EMG....You have no idea how much those photos mean to me. I am working with some other June '63 Carleton grads to put together a mini-reunion...dinner, drinks, and then a tour of Carleton. I live out of state and probably won't be able to go, so your photos mean a lot. I'd love to talk Carleton to anyone who was there in the 60's or 70's. I'm still looking for a photo of the old "portables" that had classrooms in them and sat behind the main school buildings. They were torn down while I was still at Carleton, if I remember correctly.

EMG.....the photo you have labeled the westCasinodoor, is actually the east Casino door by the kindergarten. The west Casino door was in the new 2-story addition. Got any more???? I am so happy to see these.

Holy cow, you're right. I'll have to rename that picture in my files.

And now you've told me something I didn't know...that the two-story side was "an addition." It was always there when I was there [[I started there in the mid 60's). Interesting. I think I might have a few more pictures of Carleton, but not many. Let's see....

That's all I have of Carleton. I do have a few other photographs of some of the residential streets in the neighborhood, especially my own neighborhood which was south of Morang. Here's one last picture that should bring back memories to anyone who walked home from school on Roxbury to cross the light at Morang:

And of course quite a few Carleton alumni might have fond memories of St. Brendan's Church - say the word and I'll post several St. Brendan's [[some of which I think I obtained from the old version of these forums which I never actually joined as a member).

So here are some names that might jog some memories....

Teachers....Ms. Frankie [[Science room 108), Ms. Wells [[3rd-4th grade & mathematics, Room 212), Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Owen [[1st grade Room 100), Mrs. Green [[nee Sherwood 4th grade Room 214), Mrs. Harris, Mr. Ignasiak / Miss Osgood [[gym teachers room 106), Ms. Van Ryn [[5th grade Room 209), Mr. Dyer-Hurdon [[4th grade Room 210), Ms. Elizabeth Horvath [[Library room 110), Mrs. Conflitti, Mrs. Irene Miller [[music) - room 109...and of course the principal Mildred Swander.

I was born at Kirwood Hospital in Detroit...I grew up on Conner between Jefferson and the River...I attended Keating Elem., Jackson Jr High, Southeastern High, received BA & MSW from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor..currently live on the Riverfront.

I grew up in Northwest Detroit. North of McNichols, South of Seven Mile, West of Wyoming and East of Livernois. When my family moved into the area in 1975 it was a jewish community.

Moved to Detroit at age 2, Lakewood north of Mack. In '71 we lived on Bewick, first block off of Jefferson. We drove by the Uniroyal plant frequently, and the first word I learned to spell was Uniroyal.

In '73 officially became a west-sider in Grandmont on Archdale and Lyndon, then Archdale and Schoolcraft [[ho!), where we stayed till '88. Edison Elementary School on Grand River was Happy Land.

Been "livin' the dream" in Hamtramck since '91. Somebody, wake me please.

Grew up on Devonshire near E. Warren and Outer Dr. Went to Stellwagen Elem 70-74, St. Matts 75-79, and DeLaSalle 79-83. Moved to GPP SCS now in Warren.

Born @ St John's in 1954... lived on Georgia St across from Patronage of St Joseph. Attended K @ AL Holmes and went 1st through 8th grade at PSJ. 9th grade was at Regina HS; grades 10 through 12 @ East Detroit HS, where my parents moved in 1968.

My first apartment was on Laurel, near Houston-Whittier & Dickerson. Moved around a bit as was convenient to ladder-climbing with jobs, first real one [[not counting Kmart and Federal's) was with JTBarnes & Co in the 1st National Building. Moved to the north 'burbs when I took a job in Southfield, then was back living on the east side when I started working at NBD.

Bought our first house in Warren... bought our 2nd one 160 miles west, near Kalamazoo, been here almost 20 yrs now.

Born August 1956 at Holy Cross Hospital. Was supposed to move into the house my dad was building on Alstead near Moross with my mom & grandparents but the house wasn't finished until October. Lived in my parternal grandparents' 3-story house on E. 8 Mile [[Warren side) across from Crown Furniture. [[Where was that?). My dad, uncle and grandpa built that house, though I don't know when. There was a huge sour cherry tree right in front of the house. Yumm!

Dad had recently gotten rid of his pre-war "jalopy Nash" and was soon to buy his first brand new car, a 1950 Plymouth DeLuxe. I was almost born in the back seat of a Hudson Hornet. But Uncle Ben drove a little faster and made it to Cottage Hospital with minutes to spare on August 29, 1950.

Interesting. When I lived in Detroit, I had grandparents who lived in Muskegon [[on Neilwood Drive just northeast of M-120 and River Road). We often visited them for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I'm pretty sure Lutheran West is history, as is Lutheran East. I heard just a few weeks ago that Bethany School will be closing, too. That will leave but one Lutheran school in Detroit, Detroit Urban.

I don't know if Bethany Church will last much longer. When I was young, Bethany had around 1350 members, around 800 attending on a Sunday. They now worship an average of 67 per week.

Wow. When I was on the University Liggett cross country team [[1977-1978) we used to compete against Lutheran East and West all the time.

As far as East Riverwood, I know today I could look that up on Google [[and maybe later I will), but at the time it wasn't a street I was familiar with. I must have passed at at least once as I do remember one time taking an "adventurous" bike ride all the way to the east end of River Road!!

As far as I know I got my first taste of the east side by playing against Bethany Lutheran in Mel Ott league baseball. Even though I did not attend Lutheran West, Many family members of mine did. That school is now Detroit Urban Lutheran. I hate to see schools close, But that is a sign of the times.

I grew up on St. Marys st. and Santa Maria on the northwest side. Close to 6 mile and Outer drive. I went to Isaac Newton School. Started school in 1964. What a great neighborhood it was. I really mean that, it was a great place to grow up back in the 60's even though a lot of bad things were happening in Detroit. I miss it and I think about it often.
