Default Detroit Police officer Brian Huff buried today

Somber and reflective mood attended by hundreds of police officers from around Southeast Michigan to honor and say goodbye to one of their own.

There were calls to stop the violence, to heal and to halt the disrespect of law enforcement.
But the words of the 10-year-old son of slain officer Brian Huff brought plenty of heartbreak during today’s two-hour service at Greater Grace Temple.
"Thank you all for coming to my dad's funeral," Blair Huff told the crowd. "And, mom, I'm going to protect you no matter what."

The Detroit police deserve extra understanding. As a retired Atlanta officer it amazes me Detroit finds enough dedicated personnel to do this job. Starting salary for Detroit is $30,137. Starting salary in Atlanta is $34,726 for a rookie with nothing more than a high school diploma or GED. The cost of living is cheaper in Atlanta, the crime is less in Atlanta which makes the stress level much less.

My hats off to the dedicated officers in Detroit who are doing this job because they honestly want to make a difference. It sure isn't the money or benefits.

Having went to school with Brian, he was a great guy even in High School. While at the funeral home on Friday I was talking to a friend who said that Brian was a man at the age of 13. As a young man he did everything he could to take care of his family. I have no doubt that his son learned his sense of duty and responsibility from his father. Brian Huff will truly be missed, but I suspect he has left a wonderful legacy through his son.

...and while we mourn Officer Huff, his cousin stole donations designated for the family from neighbors, friends, and well wishers. What a piece of $hit!
