Sam Riddle was convicted this afternoon by a Wayne County Circuit Court jury that deliberated 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Jurors found Riddle guilty of felonious assault. He faces a mandatory two years in prison for the gun charge.

Judge Gregory Bill rejected a prosecution request that Riddle be immediately jailed. Instead, the judge is allowing Riddle to remain free until the May 26 sentencing. Riddle is banned from having alcohol, and the judge warned any violations would result in immediate jailing.

Riddle said, “This changes everything about my approach to all my federal cases.”

What was the racial makeup of this jury? That seemed to very important in the corruption case.

I guess we won't be hearing the race card again. Sure he feels if it didn't work here it certainly won't with a Federal judge and jury.

    Default Sam Riddle Siting!

Sam Riddle was in attendance as a speaker at Je'rean Blake's funeral Monday! He spoke about the unfortunate reality of "two" Detroit's: the good and the bad "ass!" Detroit [[his words from the pulpit!) and how we must resolve end the crime.

Riddle also referenced that he was on his way to jail remorsefully. He also made two controversial short comments regarding the broad issue of police misconduct relating that a a point to Aiyana and people needing to do what was necessary to keep the police "out of their house!".

    He should know!

DPD Warren Evans and mayor Bing looked on while these comments were made. This was met by applause strangely enough.

Riddle may be off to jail today

Move could settle all his legal troubles

Sam Riddle is expected to turn himself in to federal authorities today to begin his jail sentence before his Aug. 17 sentencing date, his lawyer said Monday.

The move also could help Riddle, a political consultant, settle all his legal troubles, because he likely would serve his state prison time on a separate felonious assault and weapons conviction concurrently with his new federal conviction, Riddle's lawyer John McManus said.
Riddle, in a rare instance, declined comment Monday.

If Riddle seeks to have his federal bond canceled today, he can immediately begin a federal sentence, which is capped at 37 months under a plea deal. But he'll have to turn himself in before Wednesday, when Wayne County Circuit Judge Gregory Bill is scheduled to sentence him on the state charges.

Riddle's plea deal in federal court recommends that all his sentences run concurrently.

Last week, Riddle, 63, admitted to a bribery and extortion scheme involving former Southfield Councilman William Lattimore, who already has pleaded guilty to taking $7,500 from Riddle and former state Rep. Mary Waters in August 2007 to help Zeidman's Jewelry & Loan relocate and expand in Southfield.

Waters, 54, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of filing a false tax return, and prosecutors will recommend no prison time when she is sentenced Aug. 17.
