    Default Where are the Feds?

I was under the impression that the Feds were about to indite some Detroit politicians soon. Kym Worthy, where are you, what are you doing, what's the status of the probe?

Wondering the same here. I expect to wake up to Freep/News headlines each morning. If the Synagro dude pled guilty to bribing someone, shouldnt that person [[MC?) be in court by now?

Didn't Worthy say the Feds were going to present their indictments later in this year and it would amaze us? They may have to tie up a few loose ends on their case. It's almost May now. I bet by mid-summer, early fall there will be some news.

    1) The Feds can't do anything until Rosendall get into open court and reveal the names of people that took bribes. That won't happen until he is sentenced.

    2) Thanks to the bumbling of the Bush DOJ, the government case against former senator Ted Stevens was thrown out. The Obama DOJ is not going to jump in and make the same mistakes. If they believe that they can convict anyone involved they are going to do it.

    3) This is an election year. The only little fish that they could go after is M. Conyers and she is not worth a rush to convict. Had Kilpatrick still been the mayor then yeah there would have been a issue to rush this. As I stated this is an election year and let's say that Conyers does not win re-election. The government going after her would be moot. She would be just another crooked ex-official.

In closing, the Federal case would have centered at Kwame Kilpatrick if he was still the mayor. The ex-mayor as well as his cronies are all gone from city government. Even his father have no involvement in city affairs. The DOJ will act but not as fast as some would like.

Having been involved in the Federal justice system to some extent during the late 70's, I know that the system moves very slowly. They work long and hard to make sure that they build the best case they can. If they use a Grand Jury to investigate crimes, the jury is impanelled for six months. They take testimony from many many people to get down to the bottom line of who did what. As stated above, they need Rosendall's testimony to start with. Then every person he mentions will be either deposed or give testimony before the grand jury, starting with the littlest fish up to the biggest sharks.

Seems to me that back then they had an investigation into a Vista Disposal contract with the CAY administration. It took well over a year before the indictments were handed down, as I recall. I trust that if there is evidence of a crime, they will find it.

By the way...Kym Worthy is the county prosecutor..when the Feds do or do not hand down indictments is not up to her, it is up to the Federal prosecutors.

    Or,

    [[Playing Devil's Advocate)

Maybe they have no concrete evidence. They have some employees who took some bribes, supposedly on behalf of their employers, who can say they didn't have anything to do with it. Unless the employees have some tapes of their own, nothing can be proven and they probably won't get convictions based solely on the word of people who themselves have confessed to wrongdoing.

Even someone who can't pass the bar can figure out that all they need to say is: "I didn't tell so-and-so to ask for anything for me. So-and-so asked for him/herself. Doesn't it make more sense that an employee of mine would settle for such a paltry sum of money than it does to assume that I would? Of course, that explains why so-and-so convinced me to change my vote. I just thought they were being a conscientious employee and I listened to their advice. Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm not corrupt." Or something to that effect.

I'm disappointed in all the hype without any results.

Maybe, the fed know they can't get a conviction on the word of a snitch who has been given a free ride. Sorry, they got nothing on Kwame to convict him. Cox was at the party!!

To finish my earlier post, Detroiters do not need the federal government to remove Monica Conyers. Detroiter can reject Ms. Conyers in August when Detroiters vote in the primary. The government is going to sit on their hands for the moment and see what plays out in Detroit.

I pray that Detroiters make the right choice and ensure that the city do not have to endure four more years of Monica Conyers...........but...........who am I kidding!!! At-large elections means re-election by default.

or maybe it's something as small as the fact that Obama has yet to appoint a U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan?

You're the one insinuating it's not going anywhere due to lack of appointment of his successor.

no, I'm saying that this is a political prosecution and the guy we had before was a hardcore bushie and the interim guy may not have the authority to drop a bomb like this until the permanent u.s. attorney is appointed. his hands may be tied. but before you accuse him of doing nothing, why don't you go down and tell him all the drug offenders and child pornographers he's been putting away are "nothing."
