    Now this is a restoration!!

Another related restoration, or rather reconstruction, is the remake of the Machinenmensch. The original costume was long lost and this reconstruction is almost a true copy of the original. Albeit al lot slimmer.

To top it all off, you can watch this movie in the theatre!!! This movie will play betwee June 11 and 20 at the Detroit Film Theatre, and from Sept. 11 till 14 at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor.

    This is history.

I saw "Metropolis" at the DIA many years ago. There was a small group of electronic musicians from Boston who supplied the music. It was great.

"Restauration"? That would be a good term for a restaurant that has undergone a restoration.

[[Just ribbing you, Whitehouse. It's not like I've never made a mystake.)

I too saw Metropolis at the DIA Film Theatre many years ago. The rock group Queen made one of their music videos back in the 1980s using a lot of footage from Metropolis in "Radio Ga Ga"....

One of the inspirations for making this silent classic was when Fritz Lang arrived in New York City in the 1920s, marveling at the skyscrapers from an ocean liner.

Sadly Germany was becoming Europe's premier film producer in the 20s... only to have the eventual diaspora to Hollywood by many of its' actors and film industry people during the rise of the National Socialists in 1933. The German film industry to this day has never fully recovered.
