Woman accused of dropping off her daughter to attack another teen

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story had an incorrect spelling of the first name of a woman who faces charges in an attack on a teen. This report is correct.

A woman accused of driving her 16-year-old daughter to beat up another teen after school faces charges of conspiracy to assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said.

Kiesha Anquinette Patterson, 35, was arraigned today in 41B District Court in Clinton Township for allegedly facilitating a March 23 assault against the 14-year-old, with whom Patterson's daughter had an ongoing beef.

"The 14-year-old has tried not to engage, but the 16-year-old would not relent," Hackel said.

Patterson is accused of pulling her vehicle into the path of the 14-year-old girl as she walked from Mt. Clemens High School to another school to get her 10-year-old brother. The mom screamed profanities at the teen before "unleashing her 16-year-old daughter on her," Hackel said.

The 16-year-old beat the girl in the face and smashed the girl's head into the ground as Patterson cheered her on, Hackel said. The victim's younger brother saw the assault and tried to intervene, prompting the 16-year-old to assault him as well, the sheriff said.

"There is evidence that the mother was not just encouraging it but allowing it to continue," Hackel said.

The 14-year-old reported the beating the next day to the school. Sheriff's officials began investigating the incident, resulting in the Monday arraignment, Hackel said.

Conspiracy to assault is a one-year misdemeanor. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is a 90-day misdemeanor.

The 16-year-old, whose name was not released, is to face charges in juvenile court, Hackel said.

Patterson, who Hackel said has given investigators "conflicting statements," has been released on a $5,000 personal bond.

I'll nominate the mother who took two months to realize that her 14-year-old daughter was working in a topless bar.
