Nathaniel Edmonds

A 23-year-old African-American male, died at 4:20 pm on 7/24/67 from gunshots fired by Richard Shugar, a 24-year-old white male. Edmonds was sitting his backyard at 7714 Harper when a car driven by Shugar passed by. Shugar accused Edmonds of breaking into his store. When Edmonds denied the allegation, an argument ensued. Shugar went to the trunk of the 1969 red Oldsmobile and grabbed a shotgun, which he then used to shoot Edmondson in his chest. Shugar was charged with first-degree murder.

It was a white Cadillac.

If you are that interested in the riot victims check out the book " Nightmare in Detroit " by Van Gordon Sauter and Burleigh Hines. This book gives a brief history of each victim and the circumstances in which they died. You should be able to get it at the library.

I really believe that more than 43 were killed during the riots. The number 43 probably came from the race riot of 1943 in Detroit

I had went to the 40th commemorative of the 1967 riot which was held at Wayne State University. Most of the speakers on the panel who were young adults at the time had said that there were more than the reported 43 deaths as was made the official story by the press through the police department and city officials. Many deaths caused by National Guards and police werent reported.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner made a full report of each death and shared their findings with the News and Freep, as well as the wire services. I resent your false statement unless you can back it with fact.

^^ They made a report on the ones they knew about. How many were never reported to them ? That answer may be none or many. No one knows for sure if they were never documented. The only way to even try and correlate the numbers would be to go through each and every missing persons report filed after that week, which of course is impossible now. That's why it will always be a rumor. Rumors are often false, but not always.

They knew this how? How did they keep count? Did they tell you about about random sniper fire from rooftops, pinning down firefighters that went in trying to save peoples homes and businesses? Did they tell you about civilians that were also pinned down who were caught in their crossfire? Did they tell you about random sniper fire pinning down police officers who came in to protect them? Did they have an accurate count of who was shot by whom? Were you ever pinned down and somebody's trying, seriously, to take you out? Because I guarantee you, once you're done wetting yourself, you're going to want the shooter taken out, by any means necessary. Once again history rewrites itself.

Yes, every address of a house, or store, or whatever [[except the two apartment bldgs) where someone was killed is now a vacant lot.

This is not hard to believe because if you look at the city as whole, exc for downtown & WSU, there hasn't been any rapid rebuilding. A city has to have an influx of citizens, able bodied tax paying citizens, to thrive and rebuild.

Nope. Again according to 'rumor' which can never be proven or disproven, at least some were dropped in the river. By who? Hard to say since there is no proof either way. May have even been citizens participating in the unrest. Nobody ever claimed that any or all of those who may not have been accounted for were the result of officials. A full scale review of any reported missing during that week would be required to shed any more light either way.
