Sad news oldguy.....Illinois has some serious problems on several levels. Years and years of corruption are finally catching up, and now everybody and everything suffers. You've gotta' love a state where 4 out of the last 5 governors are either currently in prison or have been there.

I'm sure you remember this guy.

i have found a few more drawings of the area... It would have been amazing if all built as planned in the 1920's.
Actually blueprints can last for a while, don't know how they did them when Gar's home was built, but this is the last blueprint that 'Mr. Grayhaven', Edward Gray did- or my grandfather did for him I should say. My brother still has the original. Grandpa worked for him in Oil City from 1906 to 1909 then came soon after Ford hired him to be his Chief Engineer. Grandpa left in 1919, returned to Pennsylvania then came back and worked for Gar Wood at Gray's invitation.
I don't know if anyone uploaded some of Gray's plans, plans that obviously never happened.

Oh, and the corner of the blueprint as it will be too small to see otherwise. Still working on steam engines, even just before he died in 1939!

I still come to this thread for the history.

Will they be having Garwood/Greyhaven parties in heaven ? - I mean hell - whoops, I mean purgatory - with GREAT herb, live [[?) music, flimsy sundresses, and ice cold Boones Farm and beer ?

I still play my "Garwood Anthem" song about every day. One of these days, maybe I'll take the time to learn "Hoover is a Mover", so I can perform it live. It seems like a fun song too.

I have never played the "Garwood Anthem" live anywhere though. Ha ha.

We'll have to do something about that sooner rather than later. 'Sup Rick? I'm going for a full hollow body with a set-in neck jazz guitar build. Never done one of those before......got to get a kick-ass chisel from Stew-Mac if they have one for under $50 that is.

I'll be going with all gold hardware with Grovers and some GFS humbuckers. Still looking for a bridge, and my fancy trapeze is on the way. Not looking forward to wiring this thing. If you've ever done one of these are there any hints or advice you could throw my way?

Sad news......the beautiful and incredibly talented vocalist for Stonefront Ms. Natalie Morgan passed away last week down in San Antonio, Texas. I'm heartbroken over this news.

I have visited this thread occasionally, for years. Interesting reading, and a great novel could be written about the mansion and your group. I know that I have met several members, but my only visit was the motorcycle club party with hundreds of hibachis on the lawn. I would prefer to have missed that and attended a couple years earlier, for the music. Sad to see the posts and posters fading away. Best wishes to those who are still standing.

Hey oldguy......it might be just you and me, but that's okay with me......don't know what happened to everybody else. Was it something I said?.......probably the novelty of a short blast from the past wearing off. Hoover doesn't even send me email porno any more.

Bobl.......I sure wish you could have made it to a few of our legendary and outrageous parties.....the biker thing was the end of that era, and although that event and the mansion getting struck by lightning and burning down was what I think was the perfect end of one helluva' run through life during some incredible times, it's not the way that those of us who lived there for several years will remember the Garwood Mansion. I think oldguy and I were the only mansion family people who actually witnessed the Outlaws' national run.....everybody else had split......and oldguy was really the only one who was there til the very, very end. My gal and I got the hell out just before the whole shebang reached a peak. Kudos to oldguy for crossing the finish line there.

A novel would be great, but you should know that there was a documentary film about the Garwood Mansion and my band Stonefront that was produced by my old saxophone player and his company River Wye Productions out of London, England some years back. Sadly Robin Welch [[executive producer) died before the project was totally complete, and the project died with him; but he did mange to interview several of the people who actually lived or partied there and got the jist of how life was living in that mansion for all those years.

"...and oldguy was the only one to make it to the very very end..." That last event scared me. Wasn't a member of the club. Got out of Dodge a couple hours after arriving.

I guess I could meander back through the thread and find out for myself but much easier to just ask here at the supposed end...What years did Stonefront live in the Mansion? I lived just a few blocks over between Korte and Scripps and I remember the year it burned down due to the narrow bridge. My uncle worked at Eng 32 on Jeff at the time and told me how bad they felt not being able to fully respond. I made many a trip over that bridge on my Schwinn 5 speed with the banana seat and sissy bar but years later never dared to take my 65 Chevy Van over it opting to just drive along the old Port drive instead and hang out and make mischief along the canal.
    Many Thanks

Can you imagine sitting behind all that power!! My Dad had some affiliation to the seaplane base and would to take us down for the trail runs and then on race day our entire extended family would set up camp there, some great memories!

Agreed! And while my Grayhaven book project is still in a state of suspended animation, someday I'll finish it. For now it's still a 90 minute illustrated lecture. It's been fabulous listening to all the stories told over the years and about time to watch my copy of the Stonefront documentary again. Thank you!
