    Default ...it's just one building

Here's a video from 2002 about Downtown St. Louis.

Granted, the pictures are from 2002 and quite a bit of the buildings have been renovated since then. But it is still a very moving video.

Amazing how people think "it's just one building."

A good reminder that Detroit was not the only city where beautiful buildings were torn down for parking lots and nondescript Modernist boxes.

[[Although, I wouldn't mind having a "Gateway Arch to Canada" in Detroit!)

True. It's a shame no matter what.

Some of the architecture has been saved, though.

Escape from New York was filmed in Downtown St. Louis in the 1980s. The final fight scene was filmed in the Great Hall of Union Station [[now renovated). Fortunately, Downtown St. Louis has improved greatly, and most of the buildings Downtown have been renovated now.

Unfortunately, you will find shortsighted and uncaring people everywhere, whether that be St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc.

    a "Gateway Arch to Canada"
I do not think we went north into Canada, as we did with the great westward expansion, our manifest destiny.

Maybe a Gateway Arch in Windsor, since more Canadians come to the USA than northbound, [[or southbound in Windsor's case to the Casinos).

Technically, from Detroit, we go "south" into Canada, and an arch doesn't necessarily have to imply "manifest destiny" or one-way movement. It could symbolize our friendship.

    Sorry for the threadjack.

I thought we already had that "arch" with the Ambassador Bridge?

    Silly Me!
