Default 2010 DetroitYES! Spring Meetup - Saturday, April 24th!

Let's get together for the Annual Belle Isle Spring Clean Up! Let's have a meet up in the sunshine and fresh air on Belle Isle. Meet me, lodgedodger, on Saturday, April 24th @ 8:45AM on the West side of the Casino porch. The clean up begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM. We can plan to eat lunch together. I've always had a great time during the event!

We're all Detroit boosters--let's do something for the city we love!

Lodgedodger, I'm assuming we bring gloves for ourselves but should we bring bags, rakes, etc? Any food for the lunch? Let me know, I'm really going to make an effort to clear my schedule and be there.

Hi Roq! The City of Detroit supplies rakes and bags. I generally bring my own gloves. As far as lunch, I thought we could all go somewhere afterward for lunch. If others are inclined to have a picnic lunch on Belle Isle, I'm all for it!

Remember to wear boots, or at least bring along a pair in the event we'll be working in a marshy area. One piece of equipment I would recommend, is to bring along one of those "pick up" sticks--the sticks with a nail at the end for picking up stray pieces of paper. The City generally brings enough equipment for use.

It's a fun day. I always make new friends. We always find something interesting among the junk. Last year, I found an antique Listerine bottle that had washed up on shore.

So, I look forward to meeting you, Roq. What do you think about the lunch setup?

    Pray for good weather.

Great! I will bring my gloves and boots and see if I can scare up a stick. I'm up for going somewhere for lunch [[hopefully somewhere I can get a ghettoblaster to go along with my meal ;-) but if everyone wants to have a picnic, that's cool too.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and I hope it's a day like today!

That might work for me, I did the Belle Isle cleanup more than once back in the 90's.

Ha! During one cleanup I found an old Goebel Beer bottle. The top was broken off, but I kept the bottle for years anyway.

Sorry I missed meeting you all We didnt get there until 9:15 and most people were already out at their assigned places. We ended up out at the Marsh and the Lighthouse area and met some nice peeps along the way.

I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet, too! I'm glad you were able to help out. We were over by the Canoe Canal. [[Say that three times, fast!)

No matter where you work on clean up day, the folks are always nice!
