Default The Legacy of Purnal Goldy

    http://blog.detroitathletic.com/2009...-purnal-goldy/

There's an excellent story of the perennial appeal of the fresh-faced rookie making his first start in the first game of the baseball season. Purnal Goldy embodied that hope for all aspiring kids who loved baseball and mere fans of the game. The rumor I was familiar with about Purnal is that he hit a home run on his first at bat.

Jerry Green covers the same story from the perspective of a rookie sports writer covering the Tigers in spring training in 1962 and captures the same hope and appeal of the new recruit.

That being said, I just saw Curtis Granderson crush a home run ball out to deep right centerfield on his first at bat as a Yankee. The Yankees are scheduled to play the Tigers in May at Comerica Park.
