Here are some photos that I took today on the riverfront.

Yesterday was awesome, so was today. Both days I took big bike rides. Took the opportunity to revisit a lot of the riverfront, east and west. I was really impressed with the latest completed stretch of the Dequindre Cut, the "missing link" between Woodbridge Street and the Riverwalk [[seen here in French's photos). And I was really, really impressed. The way it abuts the Globe Trading Company ruin and entered the cut surrounded by Old Detroit reminded me of the High Line in NYC and the great work done in Germany & Turin with post-industrial areas. I really believe it will spur a lot of development around the East Riverfront area. Its future link with Eastern Market will round out this greenway as a truly useful transitway and will be a model for other trails & greenways down the line.

Milliken State Park is another amazing achievement. I can see the planned condos one day being built on the gravel lot between the park and Atwater, and how amazing it would be to walk out on your patio and overlook that park. Two or three years from now we will look at the Cut and this stretch of the Riverfront as some of the driving factors behind Detroit's upswing.

I was really amazed at what the "missing link" of the Dequindre Cut looked liked. It looks really nice and well light.

Detroit has really greta potential in its downtown access to the riverfront. It is unimpeded like in a lot of other cities. I agree that this will become a part of the upsurge. To value this access and make it a place of festivals etc... makes sense. The music and other festivals could have a number of stages across the downtown leading up to the river. If the Ford Auditorium goes, the little stage next to it could grow? with added temporary seating. There is a lot of opportunity in this area, and it would really be nice to add another parking lot and casino right smack in the middle of it all...???

I'll be hitting my trifecta this weekend. Belle Isle, Rouge Park, and the Dequindre Cut. Gotta love this early spring.

It was very interesting to see how the area from Hart Plaza to Milliken State Park was busy, yet from Chene Park to Harbortown there was hardly anyone on the riverwalk.

I noticed this well. Perhaps people don't know the Chene Park to Harbortown stretch is complete. Possibly more signage is needed directing people that way.

    Default where does Riverwalk end?

When you say it goes to Harbortown, do you mean as far as Mt. Elliot park?

The Riverfront Conservancy says there's a non-contiguous piece of Riverwalk in Gabriel Richard Park, but Mt. Elliott Park is the furthest east I've ever followed it, and the furthest it's possible to go without walking up to Jefferson and around the Uniroyal site.

This morning was ok, but it was a bit slow to warm up. This afternoon was something horrid IMO. Not so much the heat, but the sun said "fuck you guys, I'm going home!".

Now Thursday was perfect! Wednesday was still a little too cool for me...

Had the Riverwalk went to Harbortown uninterrupted people would frequent the other part. The riverwalk cuts off and then start up again at Mcdougall discourages walkers from going to the other part.
