So is this the same as the Belle Isle HUG? Don't think so, becuase I believe the city sponsored the HUG and I haven't heard of it in a few years? Can anyone clarify?

The weather will be perfect. The aroma of barbecued ribs will be in the air.

What is meant by "boots"/why are they necessary? For puddles, or what?

Yes, they do. Of course, I'm assuming by "kids" you mean those who are old enough to pitch in. Mind you, not with the big stuff, but with raking and picking up sticks and the like. What better way to show your kids how to help out.

The Belle Isle clean up was a lot of fun today. Coolest thing found was an old, corked Listerine bottle. The weather was perfect. The crew I was with cleaned under the bridge West of the bridge to the little police station at water's edge and to the fence at the old Yacht Club.

Cool Lodgedodger! I was working at Gleaner's this morning, otherwise I would have been helping out on the island. The weather was pretty nice. Anyone else care to post with what they cleaned up/found/discovered/learned today? I hope it was a success!

Outstanding web-site regarding the history of Listerine and it's advertising: http://www.kilmerhouse.com/?p=311

Don't forget, Listerine was once touted as not only a cure for bad-breath, dandruff and gonorrhea but it also could be used as a floor cleaner.

    ... a liquid swissarmy knife.

betterhalf and I were talking about the bottle last night. We must have been in "conspiracy" mode because we decided the bottle must have been sunk during Prohibition. Of course, the bottle didn't really contain Listerine.

I brought my 15 yo daughter along. We cleaned the picnic area east of the Shipwreck museum and the river bank along it. We filled up two bags of trash. I saw lots of teenagers there to clean, which is always a good thing.

We tried to make it ...but alas we spent the morning at the dentist getting a cavity filled she is 8 so big enough to pitch in..we will make the next one for sure. She was disappointed that we didnt make it. We love spending weekends on the island so i felt that it was only right to pitch in and help keep it clean.

Taking care of a cavity is more important than an island cleanup! The next time I hear of an clean up on the island, I'll let you know. You'd be most welcome!

Just out of curiosity, what did you do with the bottle? I like to collect old bottles, and if you have it and wish to sell it, I'd be an interested buyer...

I'm sorry Detroit, but the young folks in my group were fascinated with the bottle. I let them take it home. Sometimes I do find bottles in my travels. I'll keep you in mind. *hug*
