Seems really sincere, like he really wants to get the job done. I think Detroit got it right when they voted him in for mayor.

He mentioned a new Detroit Police Department headquarters, where do you think this we be?

I really like Dave Bing and think he doesn't have a personal agenda except to make Detroit a better place.
There's plenty of land at Michigan and Trumbull.

There are a lot of empty schools, too.

Why can't the DPD HQ be renovated... like they do in other cities?

Old state police building at sixth and abbott?

I remember watching "The First 48" Detroit on A&E and there was a section where the detective was showing them around the old building and showing cracks on support beams and other not so good cracks.

Something about his style reminds me of Archer. I just hope that he doesn't suffer the same backlash.

I'm going to continue to "wait and see" with Bing. Kwame Kilpatrick talked a good game in the State of the City speeches, and we see how that turned out. Bing supported Kwame for a long time before finally calling for his resignation and he has kept a lot of Kwame's people around. Like I said, wait and see.

I agree that Bing comes across as very sincere and also quietly wise, but I also voted for KK,.............Ugggh,,twice.
Im wait and see also. I have hope for Bing though.

I voted for him once. Cut yourself a break. None of us could see into the future the first time around, and most of the shenanigans happened during the first term.

I'm just wondering who will run in 2013, because IIRC, Bing's only going to stay in office for one term.

I think Warren Evans is trying to position himself for a run at mayor in 2013.

A simple answer would be it's too old & diplated for a costly renovation. However, I think the more complex answer is a complex itself. Ficano has been wanting a regional justice center since he was sheriff. This RJC would be a complex of the courts, jails, sheriff, & prosecutor's offices. Why wouldn't DPD HQ be in that same complex? Several years ago he had a team actively working on this. It seems to be currently on the back burner, but may be coming to the front of the stove again. Reports in the dailies indicated Ficano wants to buy the MGM temp casino site to relocate all the courts. This could be a first step to creation of it. "While we're at it, let's talk to Bing to have it include DPD HQ" might be part of Ficano's plan.

My dad was DPD..used to take a bus down and visit him at headquaters. I was about 15.....and I'm 58 now. That building was a run down dump back then, and I doubt the years have been kind to it. Definetly not worth renovating. No working ac units, windows that don't open, roof leaks everywhere, not to mention plumbing, wiring and other infrastructure issues. I can't imagine having to function in that place these days. The men and women of DPD deserve much better.

It was refreshing to hear a man with class and dignity giving the State of the City address again.

Those all sound like things that a renovation would fix.

What did people think about Rochelle Riley's column?

Over night it was titled, "Detroit Missing a Larger Than Life Leader." I see it's been changed...

I just wonder when we'll get over the need for "flash". "Flash" doesn't tell us much about a person's character.

Isn't DPD HQ right next to the Wayne County jail now? Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're intending to say.

Rochelle Riley is a cheerleader with a column. No real analysis goes into her work. Her head is so far up Robert Bobb's ass, she's able to give him a visual prostate check-up.

That would seem to make the most sense...especially if they are talking about consolidating the courts into the old MGM across the freeway.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Yes, DPD HQ is next to the jail. However, Ficano as County Exec can't move the DPD HQ without agreement by the City. My speculation is that the RJC would include the jails & courts that are under County control, & Ficano would be reaching out to Bing to say "Hey, we're building this RJC, you want to get in on it? We'll make space for you."
