Default Southwest Detroit Rally! Our Kids come First!

    Detroit Yesers,

Please join us at March 18th, 6:30pm at Western High School, I along with many others in the Southwest Detroit Community will be kicking off "Our Kids Come First" a Rally for SW Detroit children!

An exciting coalition in SW Detroit is coming together to create a united front around issues affecting our children. Parents, LSCO Presidents, Principals, teachers, students, agencies, churches and community organizations in SW Detroit all working to put our kids first!

    We are united to win……

Youth Recreation. Keep the recreation centers open later. Our kids need somewhere safe to go and something positive to do after school.

Healthy Kids. Southwest Detroit has the highest rate of asthma in all of Michigan! We need Asthma education programs.

Stronger schools. Every child should perform at grade level and have access to higher education. We want more after-school tutoring and college preparation.

Safe Streets. No more dangerous buildings, no more biting dogs, no more dark underpasses and no more heaps of trash!

More than 400 people from southwest Detroit schools packed the cafeteria at Western International High Thursday to rally and present to elected officials requests for action on issues of education, safety around schools and recreational activities.

Sponsored by a group called Our Children Come First, the rally gave parents an opportunity to publicly discuss community organizing around eliminating problems such as stray dogs, abandoned houses and crime. Parents presented lists of concerns to several elected officials who attended.
City Council President Charles Pugh is kicking off his street team outreach effort tomorrow in Clark Park in southwest Detroit at a rally at 3 p.m. The street team will work full-time visiting neighborhoods citywide to collect constituent concerns, Pugh said.

There are two oil refineries on S. Fort St. Your kids have asthma? Try to get something out of Marathon. I wonder if the Obama EPA has better standards than the W EPA had. [[Just a little reminder for anyone who is thinking of voting for Republicans and neocon Dems.)
