    What Were They Thinking?

    RNC Document / POLITICO

    In this case, the "they" were the fine minds at the Republican National Committee who let slip their behind-the-scenes strategy for raising money.
    As first reported by POLITICO, two Republican finance officials shared a 72-page document that suggested fundraisers feed on the fear that President Obama might drive the country into socialism -- helpfully illustrated with pictures of the President as the Joker, Speaker Nancy Pelosi [[D-CA) as Cruella de Vil and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid [[D-NV) as Scooby Doo.
    Real grown-up stuff.

    {Sounds to me like they knew the mindset of their base.}

    I'm wondering why you assume there was any synapse action at all before it was published...all I see is emotional desperation.

    From the linked article, "As first reported by POLITICO, two Republican finance officials shared a 72-page document that suggested fundraisers feed on the fear that President Obama might drive the country into socialism"

    The author asks, "What were they thinking?"

    I agree. So much could be said. 'Corporatism' would be more accurate term than 'socialism'. The Republicans already did so much to advance corporatism themselves and are probably jealous of being eclipsed - hence the misnomer and cartoon faces. The RNC couldn't even get that right and used two Democrat campaign pictures, hope and progress, thinking they somehow belittled the President.

    Socialism, as I understand the term, is about spreading the wealth from wherever it is concentrated to the people. Corporatism does the opposite. Advancing the Fed's agenda of profiting major banks, making insurance companies major stakeholders in the proposed health care system, and establishing a cap and trade scheme to enrich Goldman-Sachs is definitely not socialism.

    most of all they should be embarrassed by the slip-shod art work. Appears to be the work of an accountant with a paint program pre-loaded on their laptop.

    jeeze, if you are going to do something stupid, at least do it well.

    now this is how you use fear:

    oh yeah, the stuff in that hit job is sooo derivative. If you're going to use fear as a weapon at least be original like Bill Moyers did for LBJ. jeeze

    In contrast, George McGovern's campagin tried to use logic instead of fear and lost.

    The idea of the girl with the daisy came from Tony Schwartz. His book was titled, The Responsive Chord.
