Yes. Lets just wait until the entire city is under water and well see how important New Orleans is. It's no secret that it's sinking and from what I've seen on programs on Discovery or History channel, within 100 years New Orleans will be no longer. So is it wise to keep spending billions of dollars on something that keeps getting destroyed by nature when it will inevitably be destroyed anyways?

Much of it was wiped out after Katrina. The Lower Ninth Ward alone was denser than Detroit.

None of Detroit's densest areas comparas to the French Quarters, Royal Street, Borubon St. or St. Charles Ave.

In fact, Detroit is quite a bit more densely populated than New Orleans, whose incorporated limits include a significant amount of empty swamp and park land.

Born in Detroit in '55. Living in the metro N.O. area for the last 22yrs. I'll take N.O. over Detroit any day.

To those that are under the mistaken impression that N.O. is "below sea level", only a portion of it is. Very little of the metro area is below sea level [[Jeferson, St Tammany, St. Charles, St. James, & St. Bernard parishes) where, much like Detroit, most of the population is. Downtown N.O. is still there, and not abandoned. N.O. is also the 5th largest port in the U.S. based on volume. Combined with the Port of South Louisiana [[about 25mi. upriver) form the largest port system in the world by bulk tonnage.
