    Default Watergate 2010?

From The Detroit News: FBI: 4 try to alter senator's phones
Man who helped set up ACORN videos charged in Louisiana scheme

New Orleans -- A conservative activist who posed as a pimp to target the community-organizing group ACORN and the son of a federal prosecutor were among four men arrested and accused of trying to tamper with phones at Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office.

Activist James O'Keefe, 25, recorded two of the other suspects with his cell phone as they walked into the office dressed like telephone repairman and said they needed to fix problems with the phone system, according to an FBI affidavit.

A federal law enforcement official said one of the suspects was picked up in a car a couple of blocks away with a listening device that could pick up transmissions. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information was not part of an FBI affidavit that described the circumstances of the case...

James O'Keefe Charged with Felony; Accused of Illegally Entering Sen. Mary Landrieu's Office
If convicted, he's looking at up to 10 years in prison.

It is not entirely clear at this point why O'Keefe and his cronies targeted Sen. Landrieu, but some are speculating that it had something to do with her support of healthcare reform legislation.

NYT: After Arrest, Provocateur’s Tactics Are Questioned
But such an approach is risky, as Mr. O’Keefe himself has acknowledged, and for now at least, it seems the latest stunt has backfired.

Several commentators on the right have already begun to distance themselves from the misconduct charged by federal authorities. Glenn Beck, on his radio show, said that if it turned out that the group was trying to wiretap the office — which federal authorities have not alleged — it was “insanely stupid.”

But others are going further, and cautioning fellow conservatives — who often champion non-traditional approaches to journalism in contrast to a mainstream perceived as biased — about Mr. O’Keefe’s techniques in principle.

Michelle Malkin, a prominent blogger who has been a strong critic of Acorn and a supporter of Mr. O’Keefe’s undercover taping of Acorn employees, emphasized that it was too early to make a judgment. “But for now,” she wrote, “let it be a lesson to aspiring young conservatives interested in investigative journalism: Know your limits. Know the law. Don’t get carried away.”

Salt Lake GOP Dumps Pimp-Wiretapper O’Keefe as Speaker After Arrest
And the Salt Lake County Republicans announced today that they were replacing the would-be wiretapper James O’Keefe as the keynote speaker for their Feb. 4 Lincoln Day Dinner. County GOP Chairman Thomas Wright said, “we don’t want to be involved with that.”

According to the Salt Lake Tribune:...

Better grow a pair of eyes out the backside of your head righties 'cause they're starting to turn on their own. They've strung you out and they're just beginning to string you back in.

How does it feel to be harvested by your own?

interesting how the analysis of that acorn video - which showed signs of heavy but skillful editing - never made it into the news. it was a tiny single paragraph buried in the freep one sunday. just shows yet again where the real bias in the media is. if media was liberal, the story would have had the word "discredited" when mentioning the pimp video

Looks as though the Right are distancing themselves as quick as possible from this mess. But just a few short months ago, they were hailing this guy as a hero.

The right has a way of picking hero's who have less than stellar back rounds. Just look at Mark Sanford, Joe the non-plumber, Trent Lott, drug addict Rush, do you see a pattern here yet?

Yep, Faux News has been quiet as a mouse over the O'Keefe controversy [[did they even report it?). Yet just moments before this story was printed they continuosly bragged over how they were the only news organization to report on ACORN. It makes one wonder if they had some involvement in the scheme.

Here's their only notable report I can find on it. Ironically their only voice of semi-sanity[[Shep Smith) was in the driver seat [[but noticed how he tried to lay some sand down for Tim Gaughan).

TIM GAUGHAN: [It's a] very weird story that probably needs a lot of context and a lot of looking into, which is what we’re going to do here. I just wanted to get it on the record with it right now.

SHEP SMITH: So, they’re saying basically, they’re in there — It sounds as if what they’re saying is, they’re looking for some ACORN hanky panky and they try to tap into Mary Landrieu’s telephone to get it

TIM GAUGHAN: That could be one way of looking at it, yes.

When I saw this O'Keefe fellow on TV I thought he was mentally challenged. Literally. Does he have any sort of retardation going on upstairs?
