Default MLK and the Lodge property question

What is the story with the large fenced-in vacant plot on the SE corner? I drive by all the time and wonder. Thanks.

Old two-story projects, among the worst in the city until a few years ago.

Does the city own the land now? Surprised to see it fenced.

Future home of the Red Wings.

Just kidding, but it is awfully convenient that they razed those projects so quickly and the property is right across from MotorCity Casino.

The land is owned by the Detroit Housing Commission. That site is slated for commercial development. As you can imagine the current prospects for this are not good. So the DHC is holding off on that aspect of the project until the site gets built out with new housing. Hopefully the new residents will make the site more attractive to a potential commercial developer.

Regarding commericial spaces, wasn't there supposed to be retail/commercial development at the NW corner of MLK and the Lodge for the Woodbridge Estates site?
