Default Old MGM complex mulled for Wayne Co. Circuit Court site

Anyone see this? Is Wayne County Circuit Court looking to consolidate? Where is each division currently?

"Former gaming rooms could be turned into courtrooms at the former MGM Grand Casino complex in downtown Detroit.

The closed casino is among seven buildings under consideration for a consolidation of Wayne County Circuit Court space.

Other buildings under consideration are: the old State of Michigan building along the Lodge Service Drive; 1001 Woodward, a vacant building that also was looked at and rejected by the county before it bought the Guardian Building, and the Chase Building on Woodward."

Maybe [[doubtful, however) it will spur some development in this side of downtown, which is currently lacking services and filled with surface lots. It would be great to finally connect Corktown to Downtown.

I seriously doubt it will have any serious kind of multiplying factor; courts don't usually have that effect on the surrounding community. But, better a filled building than an empty one, and better that the fractured court finally consolidate itself in existing space than try to build anew like they'd originally planned at the beginning of last decade. Currently, they are scattered around three or four different sites in the greater downtown area, with the actual court being in the justice complex, the clerk's office being somewhere else, and the juvenile division yet in another location.

That first link yields nothing of substance...

The Freep article diagram is in error. It shows not just the former MGM Casino, but also the current IRS complex at the top of the diagram.

It would have been nice for the Freep reporter to mention where the multiple sites of the current Circuit Court are... I'm assuming some or most are in the CAY Municipal Building [[in the taller tower).

Did anyone else besides me notice a HUGE Kroger advertisement for their pharmacy slapped right in the middle of DetroitArmy's post?

    What was that about?

Simply go to the court's website to see the locations of the court:

    - Friend of the Court: 645 Griswold

    - Civil Division: 2 Woodward Avenue [[City-County Building)

    - Criminal Division: 1441 St. Antoine [[justic complex)

    - Juvenile Division: 1025 East Forest

If it saves money, it is a good thing, but the County Building will be half-empty if the courts are removed. Not so much with the St. Antoine building. Friend of the Court leaves the suffering Penobscot. I'm not sure how many Court's are in that ugly East Forest building. I guess the benefit of the $$ savings and filling an empty structure outweighs the redistribution.

Gistok, since when does the freep, detnews, crains, or modeld [[sorry modeld, I had to include you on the list, but I still love the publication) produce articles that actually have substance? That's one of the main reasons to post articles such as this, so posters can give their "insider" two cents about the issue.

313: sorry about the advertisement, I just cut and pasted an excerpt from the article and apparently the kroger ad was mistakenly included.

Heard the same from some colleagues who work at FOC.
