Urban Ruins Slideshow on Slate Magazine

Slate, an online magazine, just published a slide show of urban ruins in America. Detroit figures prominently among other usual suspects [[Chicago, IL; Gary, IN, Camden, NJ). I find the progression of the Packard Plant interesting. It looked like a pretty nice place as recently as 1993.

Camilo Jose Vergara has been photographing urban ruins since before this site went up. He is the recipient of a Genius Grant and visits Detroit sometimes.

I was expecting the usual ruins pictures of Detroit but I liked how he had pictures of them overtime. Packard didn't even look that bad in 2000.

I found it interesting how long those buildings in other cities have been abandoned.
