    Default Demo'd buildings question

This might seem like a dumb question but I thought I would ask. Is there any way to find out about buildings that are going to be demolished, pre-demolition? Like once a permit and whatever else they need is acquired can the public find out somehow?

Probably not, since most of the vacant property in Detroit is held by private parties. They pop up just in time to get a demo permit [[or not...) and then just mow things down. As in the next day. But an empirical rule of thumb is this: if you can't remember a building's being occupied, it's probably in danger of coming down. Property owned by the city is subject to a slower process, and you can see it coming for bigger items when requests for bids are put out.

The city has a phone number to call to see if a property is listed to be demolished by them, have no idea about private owners demolishing things themselves.

    9. How do I get a structure demolished, placed on the demolition list or find out the status of a property on the demolition list?

    A. Contact Buildings & Safety Engineering Department at [[313) 224-2733.

Write the Demolition Office and a response will be received in approximately 10 working days or less.
