I've seen that building. I remember the art decoish neon sign was interesting.
I'm sorry for your loss. That is a tough thing for a community to go through, especially when a store has been such a fixture within the town. 1857. that's a lot of families
yeah our downtown is very cool. lots of late 19th early 20th century buildings - although most of them are vacant.
Racine Wisconsin has a piece of Detroit's history.... the mighty 4/32 Wurlitzer Organ of the Detoit's former Michigan Theatre is located today in Racine.
A [[young) fellow by the name of Fred Hermes purchased the organ in 1956, and built a home in Racine for it in his custom 2 story basement of his house. He must be in his 80s now, and it's still at his home there... enjoyed by the public at occasional concerts.
