    Default Washington Blvd Ice Fountain

I have 2 more postcards to share that I recently added to my collection.

The back of the second one says "ICE FOUNTAIN, WASHINGTON BOULEVARD. One of the unique features of Detroit in winter is the famous ice fountain on Washington Boulevard. Several jets of water are allowed to play all winter, and the result is a massive berg of ice which sometimes reaches a height of nearly thirty feet and contains many tons of the crystal."

Yesterday, we noticed the trees are set up for the Belle Isle ice fountain.

Here are some photos of my maternal grandparents [[along with some of their friends) that were taken in front of the ice fountain sometime during the spring of 1917. Below that is a listing from the 1917 Detroit City Directory of some of the buildings on Washington Blvd. that appear in the background.
