This 1894 house was the original home of Antoine Labadie, a famous Downriver founder. The house was moved in 1946 to 150 Spruce. The house foreclosed a few years ago, and the city put it up for bid. A gentleman offered $10,000. I toured the house during an open house, and the reps there said the city really wanted to demolish the house because another buyer wanted the whole block for a medical center. This gentleman's offer was accepted, until the city said he had to preserve the exterior, restore the house to 1894, and a bunch of other b.s. The bidder also placed a bid on a 40-foot section of the lot next door, so he could build a garage. The city refused the bid.
The original bidder withdrew the bid, and now the city will get their way by demolishing the house.
Sad day when a city prefers to tear down a piece of history in favor of alleged "progress". Wait until the city council [[led by fat-ass Joe Peterson) approves a tear-down. Then the truth will come out.
