It's kind of funny how 4 years ago folks on this forum thought I was a Nerd because of LEGO [[well OK, I'm a Nerd, but not because of the bricks ;-)

But today the adult LEGO market has exploded. Kids who had LEGO grew up to have their own kids... bought them their first LEGO sets... got re-into building with it... and found out online that there are hundreds of thousands of other adults, as well as hundreds of websites of AFOLs [[Adult Fans Of LEGO).

And there are online stores with over 100,000,000 parts available if you want specific bulk items [[that the LEGO company doesn't sell separately).

I wrote a 2,200 page collectors guide [[on CD, available online)... but I made the mistake of starting with the early years [[1949-80)... instead of starting with the present and working back... so there's a volume 2 in the works....

Check out some of the items now available for the adult market....

    Taj Mahal [[5,900 pieces)...

    LEGO Eifel Tower [[3,428 pieces)

    LEGO Victorian Town House...

Gistok, Id love to see what you would create if you had access to the Lego warehouse.

If you did, what would you make? Any ideas?

Its amazing all the different shapes you can buy.

LOL! We need a machine that sorts LEGO pieces into different bins. Does such a machine exist? That would make a great project for one of those High School engineering contests!

In 1949 there were 6 different LEGO parts... by 1963 there were 138 different LEGO parts.... today the number exceeds 7,000. Jim.... it would have to be an MIT project!

Well I just finished my 2,800 page Unoffiicial LEGO Sets/Parts Collectors Guide [[1949-90s) on DVD. It took me 2 years worth of research, as well as parts of my older LEGO CDs. If anyone is interested in a copy [[or even a downloadable file)... just Private Message me.... I'm giving DYESers a 1/3 off the retail price. In case you've got some old LEGO that your dad had, or even some you had as a child... this guide gives a list of every LEGO set going back to 1949... something that even the LEGO Archives in Denmark don't have a complete inventory of.

Attached are images of the most valuable LEGO part and set... the 1957-58 Opel Kapitän metal wheeled auto, only 8 known, and worth $5000. The most valuable set was a 1974 Maersk Line Container Set that was a promotional set for the Maersk Corp. of Denmark [[today worlds largest shipping company). This boxed set could fetch up to $4000 in Mint-Sealed-In-Box.

At 25, our son has graduated from college, bought his first house, and is engaged to be married.

In setting up his new home, he’s sorting through childhood things at our house. Some things made the cut and some didn’t. Making the trip to Williamston is his extensive LEGO collection, including bricks, house parts, gears, DACTA parts, and kits. It’s maybe ten or so large plastic storage boxes.

Andrew recently commented that he was lucky his house has a full size basement for his LEGOs.

When we have occasion to give gifts to young children, it’s almost always DUPLOs.

The number of adult fans of LEGO [[AFOL) has increased from about 1,000 in 1998 to over 200,000 today. They now have conventions all over the world. In 2007 the NMRA [[National Model Railway Association) held their annual convention at Cobo Center... and the main attraction? Why the MOCs [[My Own Creation)s of AFOLs... especially historic buildings.

We enjoyed the LEGO® Architecture: Towering Ambition exhibit at The Henry Ford when we visited earlier this month.

"The Art of Building with LEGO® Draw inspiration for creating your own designs from the LEGO® Architecture: Towering Ambition exhibition in Henry Ford Museum. LEGO® Certified Professional Adam Reed Tucker has re-created famous landmarks entirely with LEGO® bricks. The exhibition includes 13 models: Fallingwater, 7 South Dearborn, Chicago Spire, John Hancock Center, Marina City, Willis Tower, Trump Tower, Burj Khalifa, Empire State Building, St. Louis Arch, TransAmerica Building, Jin Mao Tower and one of the World Trade Center towers."

Quite interesting when you know the buildings and structures!!!
