I object. This game is tilted in favor of those forumers who are old enough to carry AARP cards.

  7. #7

    Default

^ ha ha... Not just an AARP card, you would need a death certificate to answer some of those. The broad answer to 4 & 7 is Hart Plaza, right?

  8. #8

    Default

Lowell is correct on #4 and 7.. Excuse jjaba, but old Westside Bar Mitzvah Bukkors don't have a franchise on Detroit history. The Forum is loaded up with all manner of folks from all over the World who know Detroit much better than jjaba. You want history, talk to some Indians.

And Lowell, don't say Death Certificate to an old guy. Yikes. ROTFLMJAO, how's that for a fossil.

Hint - Number 2 is the Guardian Builidng.

I haven't been able to eliminate either City-County Building or Millender Center as possibilities for Number 3.

Congrats to 48202 who comes out the winner after jjaba's strict interpretation of his own rules. You can do that if you are the boss.
I did some legal work for Otis Elevator and they told me that the Crystal Palace in NYC had the FIRST elevator, but I won't get involved in the bonus question regarding Detroit's first one . Must keep my retainer intact. But East Detroit appears headed in the right direction.

    East Detroit is correct.

With three independent sources of documentation, the rock's services shouldn't be required to defend this one.

This site can be found by doing an interweb search for .... "first passenger elevator in detroit"
    http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0...me-Line-2.html

I just confirmed that all of jjaba's entries are found in Cheri Gay's book "Detroit Then and Now." Finding the responses would have been much easier if I'd been able to find my copy of the book before this morning.

    jjaba, 48202 thanks you.

I dunno, doesn't seem too strict to differentiate between Hudson's, Kern's and Crowley's [[depending on which Compuware parking location you're referring to).

jjaba played a little loose given that it is Holiday Season and The Rock charges alot for his advice. That's why #4 and #7 were simply whatever was put down, be it a statue, a bldg. or Hart Plaza. For those questions, the point was simply to say that Woodward Avenue ended at the Detroit River until the massive Civic Center project of the 1950s was built.

48202 is a scholar ofcourse since he is correct. jjaba did use the reference text cited. jjaba don't play the fool when running his contests. He always has printed texts as backup. The first thing The Rock, as counsel, asks is, "Where did you READ that"?

Congratulations to 48202, whose handle tells us something about his downtown knowledge.

jjaba, Old timey Westside Dexter Blvd. Bar Mitzvah Bukor and Triviameister.

#6 was to show that a 2.2 million sq. ft. department store was imploded for an empty hole in the ground and pipedream of better times to come.
