    Default Songs inspired by DetroitYes.com

This is another song inspired by the Detroit Yes forum. If you listen to it, you will hear echos of Detroit Yes discussions throughout.

It is a song about a guy in a down economy who has to do something he really doesn't want to.

It's called "Sitting Here Boogie". Here's the link:

Here are more songs inspired by DetroitYes.

A moment in time, a 5 year party: "Garwood Anthem":

Every gathering of people has someone who colors all that goes on, the Garwood Mansion was no exception: "Hoover was a Mover":

    http://jamq.org/jamqueuemusic/StHiJ1...-Rick_KeyG.m3u

A song about a hyperviolent guy who lives in burnt out houses in Detroit, directly inspired by comments in DetroitYes threads: "C'Mon Baby":

More DetroitYes influenced lyrics: making love on top of abandoned skyscrapers, Garwood Mansion does a cameo in the end. I like to preface this song by saying that events in Detroit tend to become more extreme than elsewhere, so I imagine global warming in Detroit leading to a monsoon. "Mr Monsoon":

There you have it, the complete DetroitYes Song Oeuvre collected in one thread.

All the songs are about Detroit places and buildings ... don't step on that syringe!

I am working on a blues about the Cass Corridor, based on the "Old Detroit Bars" thread. It's coming along pretty good, I have the basic guitar part done. I'm thinking of calling it the "Cass Corridor Boogie". Working on the lyrics and the melody, is a lot like boiling tree sap into syrup. Apply heat and stir and stir, slowly condensing it down. You can still add to the thread and get half a second of fame.

There should be a heavy metal track called "Tear That Schitt Down."

That is an excellent idea BuildingsOfDetroit! And it is especially humourous coming from you, because you are the webmaster of the wonderfully informative site www.BuildingsOfDetroit.com ! After the current song, I am going to do this! I can hear it in my head already.

I copied a couple links of songs by Dookie Joe, and one by myself into this thread, so all the music about Detroit is in one thread..

Defunct Hastings Street has the "Hastings Street Opera". The Cass Corridor now has
the "Fast Talking Cass Corridor Blues". The link below should allow you to listen to it, and the words are below that. Tell me what you think!!

All the material came from bodybagging and dookie joe, and some others in the thread above. Bodybagging sent me some additional memories in an email ... and after that I just made stuff up.

The other day I was reading the stuff about Curly the bum dying, and was inspired to write the following song. I changed the lyrics to "Junior the Bum," because it was easier to sing than "Curly," plus there was a bum named Junior who used to hang around the lower end of the Corridor, south of Myrtle. Legend had it that Junior had once been a boxer...anyway, I hope you guys like it.

    http://lordza.zftp.com/Junior_the_Bum.mp3

    Junior the Bum died yesterday
    Nobody cared about him anyway
Found in a cold, dark doorway
Next to an empty bottle of whiskey

And the last thing he did
was shake his fist at the sky

    Junior the Bum died yesterday
    Nobody cared about him anyway
    Another part of the scenery
    Another Third Street tragedy

And the last thing he did
was shake his fist at the sky

    Junior the Bum died yesterday
    Nobody cared about him anyway
Found in a cold, dark doorway
Next to an empty bottle of whiskey

And the last thing he did
was shake his fist at the sky

SW Detroit has some of the best musicians anywhere....after the Rubofest in '03, I wrote this song called "Vernor Highway," in honor of the cool vibe at that year's party. That was a Lords of Delray song -- John Tully's on guitar, Dennis Sullins on bass, the drums are loops; I'm singing lead, John and Dennis backup. Hope you likes it:

    http://lordza.zftp.com/vernorhighway.mp3

Another day and the / sun is shining on me
My song is playing so I / turn up the radio and
My window's down and I'm / moving slow 'cause
Something cool come blowing my way
    Pretty girls on Vernor Highway

Just say the word and the / party gets goin' and the
People come flowin' when the / vibe's a'glowin and ya
Ride out the day and you / rule on the night 'cause
They're gonna leave when you beg 'em to stay
That's how it goes on Vernor Highway

It's gettting late but everybody's hangin'
'Cause they don't wanna stop the party when the
    Music is swingin' so we
Keep on jammin' till the po-lice turn us off and
Bring an end to another fine day
    Another day on Vernor Highway

All this talk about the Corridor prompted me to write a song about growing up there in the 70s. I wrote it a few weeks ago, and have been tweaking it until now.

It's written from the perspective of sitting on the front porch on Cass, watching the neighborhood pass me by. Because it's set back in the 70s, I tried to give the song what my friend called a "Fat Albert" feel. Hope you like it.

    Here's the url:

    http://lordza.zftp.com/brick_in_my_pocket.mp3

    "Brick in my Pocket"

All day sitting / lonely watching
the blurry faces / and the hollowed-out eyes
Don't think I need to walk a mile to knock it
I'd rather sit here / with a brick in my pocket

Muggy days and the slow-moving cars
Driven by people keeping up with their Jones
Laugh aloud then they roll up and lock it
They don't know / I got a brick in my pocket

Ooh yeah, I gotta wait another day
Watch the sky from a south side alleyway

Cass Avenue / Superfly do it
Run it down on folks who don't give a damn
Roll over every time they rock it
I'm looking on / with a brick in my pocket
Something tells me/ there's trouble brewing
Snake eyes / just a gunshot away
You want love, baby, we don't stock it
All I can give you / is this brick in my pocket

Oh, no, I'm stuck another day/
Looking out from a south side alleyway

All night, sitting / lonely, watching
Showing your business / in your black kinky shoes
Play the game, baby / don't talk it
Say hello to the brick in your pocket
I got a likely story / I went to school for it
You don't believe me now what else can I do?
Hang your curve and / I'll sock it
Rounding Third / with a brick in my pocket

Someone asked for the words to the "Garwood Anthem" and "Hoover was a Mover". Here they are:

    Garwood Anthem
    -------------------

We're going to the Garwood going to have some fun.
Start a revolution til the rocks come down

and end up at the Gar Wood where they'ed jam til dawn
Jamming in the Ballroom, jamming on the lawn
    Start a Revolution ..

Supreme Court justice came to see what they think, oh yea
The youth of America was on the brink
Crazy, strange behavior no one understands
Fighting in a war in another land
    Start a revolution ...
Party with the Outlaws, live on the road,
    hitchike across the land

There's Leon Russel! Did Jimi Hendrix play here? I don't know I was carpet bombinb my head with Black Beauties that night. This is the last place Duane Allman jammed before he died. Van Morrison was a naughty boy, had to lock him in his room.

    Hoover was a Mover
    -------------------------
    Hoover was a mover,
    Hoover was a mover,
    Hoover was a mover.
    Who's Hoover?

    Hoover was the guy
with the bedroom in the sky
had a notion for the ocean
    making motion in the night

    Hoover was the guy
liked to eat the sweetest pie
liked the fruit before it fell
liked to eat before the bell

    Hoover was the guy
liked to eat the sweetest pie
    Who could ever forget?

    Hoover was a mover
    Hoover was a mover
    Hoover was a mover.
    Oh Hoover!

    Hoover was the guy
like to steal the sweetest prize
liked the ribbon not the race
and like to tell it to your face

    Hoover was the guy
take your girl out for a ride
you still like him don't know why
you should skin him for his hide

    Hoover was the guy
liked to eat the sweetest pie

    Who could ever forget?

    Hoover was a mover
    Hoover was a mover
    Hoover was a mover.
    Oh Hoover!

    Hoover liked to jam
and he'd party with the band.
    Bring them to the mansion
and he'd promise them some slam - bam

Hoover was the man when instant party was your plan.
    Bring back Johnny Winter
bring back the whole - damn - Band
    front stage, back stage,
    young girls any age

Who could ever forget? [[Oh he set a tone)

    Hoover was a mover
    Hoover was a mover
    Hoover was a mover.
    Hoover was a mover.

He lived in the fuse room for a while. The mansion was so outsize that it didn't have a fuse box, it had a fuse room, , and it had Hoover. I think Electricty flowed through Hoover making connections at the Grandee ballroom, cobo hall, the cindarella ballroom, Olypmia, the vanity, Eastown, the Riviera , bringing back the bands.

    Hi Guys,

Back in January buildingsofdetroit said that "There should be a heavy metal track called 'Tear That Schitt Down.' "

It took me a couple months, [[hey I was busy) but I finally did it. I made it as heavy metal as I could ... used my loudest guitars. But, ha ha, I am a wimpy heavy player.

At any rate, I hope you enjoy listening to "Tear That Schitt Down"

    Hi Tig3rzhark,

Actually, that is supposed to be a direct link to a streaming mp3 . If your computer is set up to stream mp3 automatically, then it it should just start up.

Here is a link to a page that has the link, where you could right click and download the song directly

    http://jamq.org/jamqueue/artist/rick.php

If you click on the links labeled "low" or "high" the song should directly play, or if you right click on the link labeled "mp3" it should offer the option of downloading to your PC.

Unfortunately, I just retired the server on which all my songs were stored, so all my links are going to go dead.
