Default This Weeks Installment of "Listen to Right-Wing Radio as Long as Possible"

Some of you may know that I like to play a game every once in awhile, the game where I turn on the right-wing talk station and see how long I can listen. This is similar to holding your hand above a candle before it burns to much. The only difference between the two games, is the latter doesn't make me want to drive my car into the transmitter tower of said station.

Last night I took my game to a new, and altogether unsatisfying level. If you guessed that I decided to CALL said station. Yes, that's right, I called. The host was blathering on and on about how we are now Israel, dealing with homegrown Islamic-fascist terrorists like the one at Ft. Hood which in his eyes will become more and more common place under our new administration. I should mention that he kept saying how much he was NOT a bigot, but then went on to say that we should be policing Muslim communities... riiiiight

So I called. First mistake. Apparently, if you have any view other than the one posted on the show, they don't take to kindly to you. It should also be mentioned that one of the tag lines of this show was "Prove me wrong!" I tried. I brought up the fact that the most frequent form of terrorism in the United States comes from Right Wing Wackjobs, fueled by the words of hosts like him and others. I reminded him of McVeigh, abortion clinic bombings, The Atlanta Olympic Bombings, shooting sprees at the post office and more recently in my current city of Orlando.

Suffice to say, that all these instances are different! Why is the shooting spree at Ft. Hood different than the one in Orlando? Why... one was perpetrated by a man with brown skin and an Islamic Name! Well, Mr. Radio Host, didn't want to take the time to challenge my assertions, so needless to say I was quickly hushed for another caller, who just happened to sound a lot like a series of commercials.

I also had to pull over and throw up shortly after being reminded that there are such idiots in the world that feel the need to spread their unsubstantiated bullshit...

    Wildly funny.. thanks....

Now, when they start a comedy program making fun of our media and what a biased pile of ___ it is, I'll start watching TV again.

There is an initial problem with the "prove me wrong" posture. Regardless politics or ideology. The questioner is usurping unearned authority. Being correct or simply convincing once does [[should) not grant carte blanche.

"Listen to Right-Wing Radio as Long as Possible," eh?

OK; I have some free time. Let me try that, and I'll report back.

The host was Roger Hedgecock, I believe he is a nationally syndicated host, it was on AM 1190 here in Orlando

Roger Hedgecock is the former mayor of San Diego. Currently his broadcast comes from here in SD drive-time [[3-6pm) weekdays on KOGO AM 1060. Traffic is bad here, so he has a captive audience.

Some of the Conservative talk shows talk some sense,
and unfortunately a lot of nonsense too.

Tune into a Lib program and the same anti-opposition stuff is spewed out
with some tidbits of wisdom wedged in between the jabs.

Somewhere in the middle there is a happy medium.
It would be nice if we could take the good ideas from both parties and then kick the parties to the curb... money sucking, corrupt leeches of humanity that they are... they sold us all out long, long ago

Imagine how much better governing would be if people were individuals who brought fresh ideas and true compassion for making the nation better to their leadership rather then towing a party line and doing what the establishment pressures them to do....

So, let me get this straight - you were making good points and he hit the "dump" button? Did he respond at all or just cut you off?
I tried calling a radio show once to voice an opposing view, and before I could finish a sentence I was interrupted and shouted down by the two hosts, then the call was cut off while I was trying to respond.

He essentially dumped the call, didn't rebuff or anything. Just kind of scoffed, begrudgingly thanked me for the call then said he had to move on to the next caller, which happened to be a commercial

You must have rattled him. They do that to regain their composure.

    Funny thread.

Probably something like the one you always do, skirt the question and move on to the next one

If you had your druthers, Freakonomics, or SuperFreakonomics?

Did anyone catch Levitt and Dubner on Charlie Rose recently? Gladwell was the nightcap. Very entertaining it all was.

    He would have:
    1. talked or screamed over d.mcc's comments
    2. ignored the content
    3. ridiculed him
    4. call anyone who disagrees a liberal
    5. rant about the "socialist agenda" of this line of thinking

There, I just gave you the cliff notes version, no need to imagine.

I would be interested in what ideas that conservative right-wing radio hosts put forth that makes them so evil as opposed to what a left-wing radio host would say. I am wondering as I don't listen to either side much at all. It would be nice if both sides could post lists of where these people are wrong.

Its not that either side is right or wrong. Most of the left-minded hosts that I listen to present information, and discuss topics, take callers with opposing views and talk with them, they don't shout over them, and they certainly don't dump calls. IE Alex Bennett, Thom Hartman, Lynn Samuels, Mike Malloy

Most of the right-minded hosts I hear provide no information outside what daddy-rush and uncles beck and hannity have said. They provide no news, but more information. Constantly shout over guests, don't take opposing views, and when they do they ridicule and condemn.

you said most of the right-minded hosts you listen to, but not all. Which one's don't act bad and who are they. I am sure you could find left-minded hosts that act bad, so you listen to those who do not, are they any right-minded hosts that do act right?
