    Did anyone else see this?

I wish the powers that be would go after this guy. It is so disrespectful. Or perhaps we could all go pull shit like this around his house.

Or better yet, the city should use whatever laws to prosecute the owner of the building for not properly maintaining and sealing the property. And also for creating a public hazard.

Btw, wasn't the city part owner of the property?

What a waste. It makes me wonder why that kind of energy and drive can't be used to tear that place down, not to mention hundreds of other structures. They should catch these guys and make them tear down some other structures for free.

There was a thread here about this a couple of months back when this actually happened. The allusions of one of the posters on that thread made it sound like he was somehow involved. The whole fate of that place as a beehive of scrappers, source of endless industrial wasteland porn for out of town journalists and photographers, and a playground for dumbass destructive wannabe hipsters these guys is really a shame.

It's just the manifestation the publishing of the "ruin porn" created.
Not surprising, is it? Anytime you publicize the lawless state and the ruined buildings, the monster you create shouldn't scare or trouble you.

Wow, now ain't that something to be proud of? NOT. What a complete, useless idiot.

I don't see the big deal. Wouldn't it have had to come down at some point anyway if the building were to ever get demoed or rehabbed?

Yes, dropping a truck out of a four story abandoned factory window is what Detroit should focus its energy on. Very important we get these guys behind bars. The humanity.

BTW - Did they ever find the guys who shot up that school stop near Cody High? Whatever.... put it on the backburner for now. We've got bigger fish to fry.

Stories like this in the WSJ about Detroit should only attract more economic development to the city and region.

Why not fry all the fish? My point is the cavalier and brazen attitude which amounts to a great big "fuck you" to Detroit is maddening. Would you accept this behavior in your neighborhood?

Yeah, thats the thing that infuriates me the most. Just this feeling of coming to the city to destroy and leaving not having to ever return back.

    coming to the city
Well aren't we full of assumptions. I did not see anything that led me to the fact that these people were not from the city...... did you?

Unless I am mistaken of course and missed something blatent.

Detroit can't even fry Kwame properly. That guy was one big proverbial middle finger that sat atop the ren cen and pivoted back and forth for years. His wake was the equivilent of 1,000,000 dump trucks full of dung being dropped on the city, and his behavior was tolerated and often practiced.

Forgive me if I don't sharpen my pitchfork for these urban pranksters when there are far deeper problems that the public and government continue to allow. i.e. scrappers, dealers, govt corruption, assualts on elderly, pilfering of churches, rape of the education system, constant littering, ect, ect ect.

I'm just a big believer in picking your battles wisely.

Well a photo in the article by the photographer onsite had this caption...

Included a photo of a group of suburb residents and canadians who I found trying to push out this truck from the packard plant's fourth story window last sat. After 8 broken jacks and 3 months of work, they finally pushed the truck out of the hole they made in the building's wall. Then they left after rejoicing at the crash.

Prosecute? Prosecute what? Tossing a valueless [[except as scrap) truck out of a worse than valueless building onto a street already blocked by the collapsing building? What exactly is everyone so up in arms about?

The most offensive thing about this escapade is that the Wall Street Journal would pay this [[[[[[[[[ for the story and the video. Seems more like New York Post material, or fodder for all the "hey look what I found online" blogs that will predictably run with it.

Y'alls indignation smells more like jealousy to me.

Canutt, it is unenlighten attitudes like that which translate into people treating our city like an trashcan. Whatever goes in Detroit, know one cares, no one will tell. Just pure Bubba Helms in word and deed. "Fuck-it, it's only Detroit ... let's dump these tires, this old paint, this rotten meat."

Maybe, as you call her, "doughbag journalist" will raise a big enough stink that Kym Worthy will hunt you and your jack-off partners down and give you a little "time-out" time.

Suburbanites coming in and pissing all over the city. It's their own private playground. They can come in, wreck havoc, and then drive home and forget about it.

Yes, the Packard plant and the surrounding area are a wreck, but people, mostly desperately poor people, live nearby, and along with all the mayhem and degradation that comes with inner city life they have to put up with a bunch of fuckheads throwing dump trucks out the windows of abandoned factories? And no one sees a problem?
It's okay, however, when Grosse Pointe Police pull you over cruising down Lakeshore Drive[[whatever its called there) for having a "suspicious vehicle" or DWB.

Will anyone mind if I push a Hummer off of the top of 12 Oaks Mall? I mean, I really do consider Novi a shithole. So who cares?

It's just more of the same with Lions fans trashing downtown while tailgating or the havoc Tigers fans used to wreck on Corktown. Piss, shit, booze, garbage everywhere. Detroit is a shithole; who cares?

Anecdotal, but some white woman in a minivan left a laundry sink in the lots behind my house. Yeah, I don't live in West Bloomfield, and the neighborhood looks fucked up, but I don't deserve that kind of shit. I went downtown during a Tigers game and some neanderthal had beaten the living shit out of a homeless guy. Absolutely no respect for where other people live.

I'm not saying suburbanites are by any means the cause of or perpetuators of Detroit's demise, but these actions, and this thread, reflects the cavalier, "It's Detroit, who gives a shit?" type of attitudes that pervade City AND suburban residents.
The problem with the suburban mind set is that actions like this are condoned as harmless and victimless, yet in the same breath, these same people will blame blacks for the continued decline of the city.

Hey, Coleman was on to something when he said the city wasn't going to give up its guns when surrounded by hostile suburbs. These are the kinds of shits you read about as, "A really great guy, a true friend, I don't know why anyone would want to hurt him" when they meet their timely demise fucking around like that.

Shit, don't tell me there is no prosecutable offense here I'm no atty but reckless endangerment comes to mind;I am sure there are other applicable charges.

Mind?! Dude that shit would make my day. Don't let anyone stop you. Don't worry, the locals will just watch meekly out of their darkened windows, clenching their fists in impotent rage, and then whine about it online.

I couldn't agree more with what stinkbug said above. I really hate all these wannabe cool jerkoffs going on their destructive little "adventures" in my city. What has happened to the Packard plant is a shame, and the city government certainly shares some significant blame for that, but it's also a historic site where many of our relatives worked and that was a very important part of the "arsenal of democracy" during WWII, If you folks really gave a damn for anyone but yourselves and your own cheap little jollies you'd do something to help the situation, or at least leave it the hell alone and not make it any worse.

Instead its just a freaky playground for your idiotic Beavis and Butthead Jackass stunts. Heh heh it's just sooo cool. And who the hell should care? Right? The city is full of nothing but worthless old junk, and nobody lives down there who matters, just a bunch of poor n****rs. You may protest that you don't actually feel this way, but I'm here to tell you that this is exactly how your actions come off to we who live here. And then you have the gall to come on here to suggest that I envy you for your ability to help destroy MY city and MY neighborhood. Well, screw you. Go the hell home until you grow up, child.

Yes, the Detroit Police have more important things to deal with, and so do the rest of us, which is why you get away with your destructive "exploring" fun. This doesn't make it right, or in any way legal. And you sure as hell know that if anyone from down here, particularly some of those n****rs, came and pushed anything off of Twelve Oaks Mall or anyplace out there they'd be in the Oakland County lockup so fast it'd make your head spin.

Yes, but the question remains - what are you outraged folks doing about your gigantic shopping mall sized blown out third world carcass of an auto factory ?

    Nuthin.

Obviously in this case I am not defending the sport of truck bouncing per se - but the misplaced outrage is making me yawn a bit. The fact that something like the Packard plant can exist all these years, in this condition, is a silent testimony to the apathy of the city and its residents. The recent emergence of a new Olympic caliber sport known as "truck bouncing" is a mere symptom of the manifestation of apathy within the city itself.

Its like a guy who left his own rotten garbage on his front porch for 50 years, and then one day he suddenly goes all bat shit crazy chasing the flies away from the garbage claiming that they are behaving outrageously - as if he cant smell the stink of his own filth.

    heh.
