In the 1960’s, Detroit was the fifth largest city in the United States and considered by some to be a model city in terms of race relationships. Now it is one of the poorest cities in America surrounded by some of the wealthiest most segregated suburbs. What happened? The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit tells the story through the experiences of a black man and a white woman, who grow up in different worlds only three blocks from each other, survive the 1967 riot/rebellion together, and meet again 40 years later.
