    Default Autism, The Musical

Fantastic doc on TVO tonight, exploring autism.

For some here I realize, this is an issue better kept behind closed doors, but it affects us all.

Autism spectrum in our global society must be heard to every man, woman and child. From a documentary film to musicals; autism spectrum disorders must not be ignored. Special education and developmental research is growing and people need to donate their time and effort to help a child with autism.

Autism is difficult to put a finger on as the definition has been fluid. Much of what was called other things in the past are being lumped into that basket now.

Yet, another reason to nationalize our health care, but there is no profit in a lifelong condition.

I went to an elementary school that had a "special needs" section, it was there I learned these were not disposable people but just people who had a difficult time with life.

Having dealt with my cousins kid, and from working in the schools . I can say autistic kids are not stupid. While working days at the school which I don't normally encounter the kids. I got the first hand view of the autistic kid I had heard about. I myself thought he needed help walking, Yet I saw first hand that that kid is one good runner.
For something I had never really heard of growing up, I find the whole thing a mystery till this day.

??Elusive diagnostic categorization is a reason to nationalize health care? That is insane.

This is not about health care reform issue. This thread is about kids with autism throwing a musical. It's a great ideal to show our society what these kids can do.

Does anyone in this forum have loved ones who are diagnosed with any spectrum of autism or Ashberger's Syndrome? Please make your comments known in this forum.

Once again jams and Ccbatson turn an otherwise human interest thread into an arena for Socialist vs. Objectivist bashing over national policy.

Can't you guys give it a rest, for once?

perceptual concepts: a disability doesn't define a person, it is an accommodation or intervention waiting to happen. 51 million Americans have one and most of us will experience thie first hand at some point in our lives. When we value each person then the construct of disability is deconstructed- to what is the accommodation or the self defined quality of life activities that each individual needs or seeks to enhance their own lives. We have to get to a place where we realize that most societies create the stigma of disability.

I have seen the spectrum of Autism, and this perceptual disorder is as complex as each individual and their support systems..and can be mitigated [[ to degrees) with resources, education and appropriate treatment. That takes resources, and thus the debate rages on about where we place our values and health care [[is a value driven) dollars.

Danny yes, it is wonderful what anyone one can do...you may be surprised how many successful college educated or technologically savy people may be diagnosed with Ashbergers...[[smiling since I know a few). Perceptual barriers that most of our folks face with this spectrum, iis challenging..support most also be available for their families. Just a thought.

Check the posts, I too was surprised that this concept was turned to health care reform and said so immediately. So, don't blame me.
