Default Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

    http://www.ajc.com/news/nation-world/interracial-couple-denied-marriage-163784.html

Danny will probably get off on this article. I think this is sad and pathetic.

I goes to prove, yet again, how socially backward and developmentally retarded the south really is.

A justice of the peace, paid by state tax dollars, thinks he has the right to deny what is legal and binding in America because he doesn't approve of the color of their skin?

Has he noticed we have a mixed-race president?

God, what a great representative of the Rethuglican Knuckledragging Party.

I say remove this carbunkle from his position, and toss in a little jail time to think it over.

Ya, its time to retire him and his retarded mentaility.

Would anyone applying for a drivers license at age 12 be surprised that they were denied? Why would you apply for something that you do not meet the state statute criteria for?

Whoa...I misread that one big time...disregard my earlier post, I thought this was referring to same sex marriage.

In this case, I completely agree that the person/persons obstructing this marriage are dead wrong and should lose their jobs over this.

    No / No

What on earth does that have to do with this issue?

Ok Batts, I have to hand it to you, you actually apologized for making a bogus post!

You could delete it, if you like, so why haven't you?

More to the point, suppose a state like Louisiana decided not to recognize a same-sex marriage performed in California, or some other state? Would you go along with that?

    Thrill me with your acumen.

How about the fact that DETROIT is argumentally the most racially divided city in America and the fact that the KKK has a somewhat signifuicant presence in MI?? By the way, do you actually know what a carbunkle is? The South isn't so bad after all unless you live in Florida and pay no state income tax. But I'm sure you give what you would have paid in State tax to some sort of fund to "help the less fortunate" as your socialistic views so emphatically express the greatness in doing. Hope you have fun tonight winning shuffleboard.

Delete my mistake? Why? I don't feel compelled to cover it up.

Regarding cross state line same sex marriage...the state that you end up in as a resident has jurisdiction.

Who's arguing about Detroit being racially divided? We know it is, so is Miami, so what's your point?

This thread is about some racist JOP refusing to marry an interracial couple. Time for him to retire to the old racist's home for the mentally challenged.

Yeah, as a matter of fact, this socialist does put his money where his rhetoric is.

I'm sure the same could not be said of you.

And, yes, I know what a carbunkle is- it's what you sat on when you typed your ill-thought out response.

Oh, and BTW, I'll leave the shuffleboard up to you, Granny, that's the one sport you excel at, and I wouldn't want to steal your spotlight.

Is it "your" money if you are a socialist?

It's not like you're "hiding the real you" by deleting it, we know you think that way.

Just found the lack of propriety strange.

As far as your "defense of marriage" stance, I hope you travel somewhere where your marriage isn't recoginzed. See how it feels to have legal rights only in some places.

It's good to know your species is a dying breed.

If I earned it, it is.

Think you're doing an end-run around the language?

You're stepping way up in class, be careful.

As I have said before, marriage is a personal bond and obligation in my mind, it need not be sanctioned officially as far as I am concerned and the "benefits" given [[entitlements) should be abolished with personal planning taking its' place.

Sorry, but the law would disagree with you.

We are a nation of laws, not a nation of men.

Marriage is only a binding contract, nothing religious about it, and in a secular society there never will be anything more to it than that.

Yes, a contract between 2 people the terms of which are spelled out and enforced by law [[if needed). Entitlements have no place in that description.

    Who's discussing entitlements?

Really! In this story, two people wanted to get married, and an elected official refused to do the job because of his personal bias. This is no "entitlement" but a simple legal process. The JP was elected and is paid to perform certain duties, including marrying people who have the requisite ID, prove they are not already married to other people, and pay the fee. He did not do that. Governor Jindal and Senator Landrieu are saying the right things. I guess the control is in the hands of Parish voters.

Gov. Bobby Jindal is calling to have Bardwell's license revoked, and Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu is calling for his dismissal.

For once, Lorax, you're right. We are a nation of laws. As long as the Defense of Marriage Act is on the books, LA does not have to recognize a same sex marriage from another state.

The article shows we still have a long way to go in this country to extend equality to all of its citizens. On a side note I wouldn't use the word "retarded" in regards to this person, people with developmental disabilities don't derserve a negative label being associated with them. AS far as the south [[ I had lived in the south) and while people can overtly a times demonstrate prejudice- I have seen more intregrated neigborhoods by choice and good fortune, where we have welcomed diversity...better than all the signs going up in the neighbordhoods of my youth when a black family even dared look at a home. I woldn just limit prejudice to one region, but I would work to eradicate from all.
