    Default Couchsurfing

So, I started couchsurfing [[couchsurfing.com) a few months back hoping to land a few free places to crash on a Europe trip I was going on and meet some new people. I figured I would also open my couch to others in case someone from somewhere might want to check out Detroit for some strange reason J. I have found that there is an overwhelming amount of people who are traveling to Detroit. I had to change my settings for a bit to get some time to myself due to the amount of request I was getting. Is anyone else here a couchsurfer and have you experienced the same thing?

also, just an fyi... I’m taking a break not because of bad experiences, but because I feel as though each one has been so good, I don’t want them to lose meaning

    Hey Harry,

I too have frequently couchsurfed. When I lived in Detroit I'd get a few requests every week from people wanting to visit, usually crunchy types without jobs or responsibilities. I also narrowed my availability to stem the tide of requests.

I made a great friend who I still keep in touch with while surfing his couch in Baltimore.

I also met two Estonian girls who were couchsurfing in Miami. They were stood up by their host in the middle of the trip, and spent the night sleeping in the lobby of a building. They smelled and looked rough.

Couchsurfing Europe would be great fun. Just make sure you get a good vibe from the people or you might end up sleeping in a lobby [[or worse).

P.S. Where do you go when the lights go out?
