Numerous houses on fire in the E. Warren & Alter Rd area.
Check post 145 on the Firehouses thread.
This is reminding me of Devil's Night of the 80's.

So far none of the TV station websites have posted anything.
Nothing on the Freep site either.
They're just getting warmed up.
WWJ-AM had a story at 1:30.
Neighbors doing a little fright / blight removal? Maybe a parallel to a forest service 'controlled burn"? It happens.
Reading the other thread, I counted 11 burned, but the Freep said 8.
What I counted.
1 burned at Somerset and Cornwall
1 burned at Beaconsfield and Bremen
2 burned at Nottingham & Frankfort
1 burned at Somerset at Frankfort
2 burned at Beaconsfield & Windsor
1 burned at Barham & Waveny
1 burned at Lakepointe & Waveny
1 burned at Beaconsfield & Mack
1 burned at Balfour & Munich
I may have misunderstood something.
Was this the building burned at Somerset at Frankfort

If I didn't know better, I would think the wicked witch of the west from the Wizard of Oz lived there. Of course, the ugly, bald tree doesn't help the image any.
Fox 2 had a story about it on their news show this morning. One of the firefighters was saying this was similar to what they see in days leading up to Devils Night, but not the weeks before it.
possibly some were accidental? First night of low-30s degree temps some street folks might be moving indoors for the first time in a while. Sometimes their fires get away from them.
No, not accidental. They could be seen from blocks away by companies at other fires and when companies arrived they were fully involved. In order for that to happen, they have to have some fuel, probably 5 gallons of it. At $2.50 a gallon or so, someone was pretty intent on their actions.
And the Detroit firefighters continue to put there lives on the line each night with this madness !
2's story is pathetic: http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/news...oit_Homes_Burn
7's isn't much better: http://www.wxyz.com/news/local/story...m8Y877Afw.cspx
4's has a few more words: http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/21264454/detail.html
There was a time when all 3 would have had extensive coverage and camera crews on scene overnight.
Are you attention seeking, Meddle? Proud of your handiwork, perhaps?
Are these bombed-out blocks, or occupied?
Wow. 3 out of 4 corners? Looking on Street View, of the 4 houses on the block, one was for sale, but looked okay, one looked like something out of the Munsters, and 2 looked occupied and in relatively good shape. Something must have changed relatively quickly.Three homes were set on fire at Somerest and Frankfort
Doesn't fire purify?
As long as no one gets hurt physcially, then burn bitch burn.
^^^^ My vote for juvenile post of the week....
Sorry ex-pat... but with my neighbors house getting blown up from a gas leak recently [[in SCS), and then standing in front of the burned out hulk 2 days later talking to someone who ended up being the dead woman's only offspring standing numb in front of the burned out hulk... well... nuff said...

I think that all the "ruin porn" and national coverage of the Detroit situation has led a few people [[if you can call them that) to believe that Detroit is a disposable city. This mentality attracts the type of cretins that just love a good fire, apparently. I hope that these people are caught, and soon..
Methinks the cretins are already among us. The DFD had a pretty busy week @Davison & Jos. Campau about 3 weeks ago.
Yep! This city has a serial arsonist on the loose doing its pre-Devil's night fires before the Angel's Night partrol and there's nothing that the city and its neighbors can do to stop it. Even though the police ot the neighbors can stop that serial arsonist, there would be more firebugs ready to burn Detroit down.

Wonder if it was the owners "taking care of a problem"?
http://freep.com/article/20091012/NE...-Detroit-firesDetroit Fire Department investigators are hoping for clues to catch those responsible for setting 11 fires in an east side neighborhood this weekend.
Between 10 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday, the Detroit Fire Department responded to 11 fires in vacant homes, Capt. Steve Varnas said. Ten of the fires were on three streets between Mack and Warren: Somerset, Nottingham and Beaconsfield, plus one blaze on Balfour, Varnas said.
Investigators found evidence that a flammable liquid was used to set the fires. The fire department along with the Detroit Police Department are increasing patrols in the area and canvassing the neighborhoods for tips.
Anyone with information can call the Michigan Arson Tipline at 1-800-44ARSON. A reward is available.
